So, I'm on vacation and I take my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (GT-N7100, unbranded, unlocked) out of my pocket to check out what's around me and all I see is the very screen you see when booting up. I know what you are going to say, but before you say it, I'll give you a rundown of what I did
  • I took the battery out, waited for about 10 secs and then put the battery back in and immediately the aforementioned screen came back on
  • repeated previous action and waited for 1 minute instead of 30 secs... Same outcome.
  • repeated previous action, but this time I waited for 5 mins. This time the screen didn't come on automatically. I plugged it in to the car charger and the gray icon (before the charging battery icon) came up but never turned into the green charging icon. i left it there for a few minutes. still no change. i turned it on and the device screen came on and froze there.
  • i pressed the power button for about 5secs and shut off and turns back on to the same screen
  • I left it alone until i got home from carting my wife around shopping and stuff
  • When I got home, it was still there frozen, so i tried a hard reset.... The device looped right back to 'the screen'. left it like that overnight until it shut off by itself.
  • I tried to power up... nothing, so i plugged into a wall charger for a bit before powering it up. Same result

I'm at my wits end and this ruining my vacation. Help:mad:

Welcome to Android Forums, MuziqueLovr. :)

Well, first I moved your query to the Note 2 area for more input for you.

Meanwhile.. I don't blame you for trying to remedy that screen issue right away, but sometimes it's best to leave the device alone until advice is forthcoming, rather than make efforts which may dig a deeper hole, if you know what I mean. Been there/done that.. more than once. :D

I'd remove the SIM card, sd card and battery. Wait a minute then do the following:

- Put everything back in

- Press and hold the home button

- Press and hold the volume up button

- Press and hold the power button (all three are now being held down)

- Wait for the "...Galaxy..." white letters to appear, then quickly release all buttons

- Wait for the blue recovery menu to appear (the Android robot will show up first, keep waiting ;))

- Navigate to "wipe cache partition" with the volume down key

- Press power button and wait

- When done the "reboot now" menu item will be highlighted at the top of the list

- Press power

- If it does not boot up normally, follow the same steps from the beginning, but instead of using the volume down key to navigate to the cache wipe, use it to navigate to "wipe all data/factory data reset" or some such wording

thanks Frisco for your suggestions:
I had the same & i have followed your points; but never been able to reach to point 6. unfortunately the screen did not move from the white words (SAMSUNG GALAXY ....) it is still hanging there. when I Press and hold the home button/volume up button/power button (all three are now being held down). then waning message is appearing (A custom OS can cause.....) then i press Volume Up button (continue) or Volume Down to cancel (restart phone; by pressing volume Up; android face is appearing and a note is appearing (Downloading.. Do not turn off Target!!) it remains there all over last night.
and when pressing volume Down; white letters remains there for the last 3 hours.

what might be the problem. i connected it to PC and the PC did not recognize the phone at all.

i don't want to lose my data in the phone and memories of my family also. what can i do to get the phone back running.

I have the same problem of being stuck on the Samsung logo screen during booting.

My Note2 is almost 2 years old. I noticed a few days before the stuck-on-boot problem happened, it had restarted by itself but was functioning normally. I've never rooted my phone or done any software update (it's not set on auto-update or auto-download anything).

I tried to enter recovery menu (Volume Up + Home + Power) as suggested by Frisco, but the phone would just get stuck on the Samsung logo screen (no Android screen ever appeared). I could only enter the download screen (Volume Down + Home + Power).

I brought it to a Samsung store and the Samsung Care guy said it looks like a software problem common in Galaxy S3 and Note2 phones, and that the Samsung Service Center would be able to fix it.

When I brought it to Samsung's Service Center, the technician said the motherboard is damaged, which could be due to being dropped, submerged in water, or virus from the update software process; and it'll cost about $140 to replace it.

Any thoughts whether this problem is software related or faulty hardware?
I took good care of my phone and was expecting a Samsung high-end phone to last quite long, certainly more than 2 years. Or is 2 years the average age of smartphone nowadays?

ytofu, you are right they told me the same its Motherboard issue and you may accidentally dropped it

. but anyway I did the steps as Frisco advised again, and nothing happened. last night i kept it on (Downloading.. Do not turn off Target!!) screen with Android logo on. when i wake-up it was off. i plugged it into power and it does not seems charging.

any further advises.
