Ok, so I put in my gmail and facebook accounts during the initial setup of the phone. Now I have a crapton of Contacts.. many are just people I have emailed once in my life or some random friend of a friend from facebook. I really don't went them cluttering up my contacts list when I go to make a phone call.

I tried to unsync Contacts in both of these apps, but the contacts didn't go away. Is there some way to delete all of these?

If it's a bunch of one-off email contacts, then it's probably from your Gmail account. Gmail captures everything. You can go to your Gmail contacts (on the web is easier) and go through them all. You can delete them from there and it also has a "Find Duplicates" button to help you consolidate multiple entries for the same person.

Yes. However, I would think if I am no longer syncing to gmail, there would be some way to remove them from the phone.

If you have google syncing off just open the People app, then it Menu -> Delete. Select the contacts you want to delete and hit delete.

A better solution would be to clean up your contacts in your Gmail and leave syncing on. That way you always have a backup of your contacts and calendar.

Here's what's happening with me..

I went into the Sync menu setting for facebook and turned off Sync Contacts.

"All Contacts" shows just me.. it says "My Contact Card" and it has my facebook picture and a facebook icon. When I click delete, it says to select the the contact you wish to delete, and it is empty. Then I go to Search Contacts, and it has all my facebook people in there. Again, I can't delete any of them. Any ideas?

Also, is it possible to use the regular Facebook app for Android instead of the Sense integrated one?

The only way to remove the FB contacts from the search is to delete the sync account.

You can use the FB app that's in the app menu.

At google contacts, I have a list of "My Contacts" and "All Contacts" ... anyone that is placed in a group is automatically placed into my contacts. They groups sync to Sense perfectly -- but it also syncs "all contacts"...

Is there any way to remove the symmetric difference of "All Contacts" (those that don't appear in my contacts) ? As these are e-mails I've only sent one email and years ago.

Try checking the Only contacts with numbers option in the view settings of the People app.

The only way to fix this is to not sync facebook and not link contacts to facebook. I had this same issue with my Eris with 2.1. I did not do this on Incredible and my facebook friends do not appear. I really could care less about having facebook info with my contacts or have people I do not want to call on my phone list. I only want the people I call in my phone list. The facebook app alone (and mobile web site) works fine for my purposes.

There is an app called "Contact Remover" that I originally thought was going to work but it cannot remove facebook contacts. I asked the developer if he could add this feature and he did not seem interested in it (and added a disclaimer to app that it did not work on facebook contacts).

Ok so it basically seems like the only point of having that FB sync account setup IS so it shows up as your contacts? I mean, my widget is still working, and I can still use the android app.. so there wasn't much point of the thing if I didn't want to see the contacts? :)

Thanks for all of your help.

Correct. The only reason to set up the FB sync account is for linking contacts and status updates in the People app.

This is what I had to do a while back to clean up everything

Go through contact list and clean it up - google.com/contacts. Remove all the contacts you do not want to keep. You have to keep doing this pretty often as Google does not let you disable the automatic create contact feature at this time :/

Now, go to your phone and remove all accounts. Then re-add your cleaned up google contact account.

When you remove all accounts, it should wipe the phone of all contacts I believe

Odd thing is, I did not sync my FB account and I still see FB updates under the contact list. I also have the FB pictures being used for my contact list.

Is this because I logged in using the FB app? It linked my contacts to their FB accounts

Go into accounts & sync in the settings menu and delete the Sense Facebook Sync account.

If something adds it back in, I am not sure, but I killed mine that way.

Now I just have to figure out what to do about these google contacts. It would be nice to maintain one central list of contacts but I don't want to sit there and clean up contacts from every person I email eiter..
