Battery Suddenly Losing Charge Very Quickly

Hey all. So, as you know, the Maxx is supposed to have an impressive battery life of 48 hours on a full charge. I bought the phone brand new in October, so it's only 6 months old. For about the past month, the battery charge has been depleting so quickly that I HAVE to charge it every night. My usage on the phone is the exact same as it's always been. I have BitDefender monitoring apps, and other background data, I have a task killer enabled, and the BitDefender PowerTuneUp. Still, though...the battery is at around 10% by the end of the day.

Has any other Maxx owner experienced this problem? Kinda frustrating since I expect a bit more out of a phone I spent $700 on brand new. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Android Forums.

Try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them). If it stops it is caused by an app you added.

Task killers are notorious for eating batteries. A task auto starts ... the task killer kills it ... the task auto starts ... the task killer kills it ... and this goes on forever.

All this extra unneeded processing consumes the battery.

(I measured mine three times ... 2 hours short of three days ... thre days ... three days and 8 hours.)

I agree with Thom - get rid of Bitdefender and any task killer and see if battery life is better.

That said, the 48 hour advertising was assuming light to moderate use. If you're using your phone a lot, it will drain battery faster. Think of it this way - if you had a phone with a smaller battery, you'd not even get through a full day.

Still, I would uninstall Bitdefender and whichever task killer you have. Task killers burn battery faster because apps that are put in the background are suspended until they need to fetch data. If you kill the task, they will just relaunch anyway and try to access data more frequently than if you don't run a task killer at all.

Viruses just aren't a problem if you only install apps from the Play Store and are careful reading the permissions that the apps require.

Mine has been doing the same thing for the past 2 weeks or so.
That was about the same time "heartbleed" mania hit.
I know many of the WIFI points I use at work were down for various reasons (patching) and I was having trouble getting signal in many places.

I assume that there have been many other companies and organizations (google and Verizon included) going through the same thing so I chalked the poor performance up to that.

Yesterday was much better.

EDIT:
To elaborate, I normally get 2 days easily on a full charge.
Friday of last week I started the morning at work with a full battery and by the time I was home, roughly 9 hours later, I was at 40%.
Right now, I have 26 hours on and am at 56%.

If you are rooted try Better Battery Stats. Fully charge phone then go to sleep without using it. Will show u any bad apps. Partial wakelocks since unplugged.

I top my battery off from 30-40% every 2 days to 95% and full cycle once a month. I use the verizon branded fonas led lit charger.

My phone occasionally will act up but only if I haven't rebooted in several days.

My razr maxx hd was exactly the same. A reboot every two days made for smooth sailing.

I have experienced the drop in battery life also recently, fwiw, but it's been a little better the past few days.

Post 4.4, I have also lost battery life and phone is same age as OP's phone.

I used to be up at 6:30 and at 11pm I'd have 35-40%, now I have about 25-30%.

I use no task killers.

Thom, how do you:

1. Run in Safe Mode?

2. "clear the data cache partition where temporary data is stored"?

Totally agree re cycle phone every other day -- minimizes problems.

Safe Mode ...
Long press on Power until dialog appears.
Long press on Power off until dialog appears.
Press OK.
It will reboot into Safe Mode.
To exit Safe Mode do a normal Power off/Power on.

Wipe Cache Partition ...
Wipe Cache Partition.
