Battery 14% after about 10 hours - i would like a bit more

What do you mean by "After about 10 hours"? Because that says your phone has gone 29 hours since it was last plugged in, and almost 19 hours of that time it has been awake.

To the OP: I think we should add in setting for "Enable always-on mobile data" as well as Sync options.

Finally: I think once you get low on power, you should try to periodically check all of the numbers ( Including the indicated battery percent ) and record until the phone actually shuts off. I think the majority of battery problems, is that people have not properly calibrated the phone to the battery ( and I almost think there might be problems with the way some Incs calculate the power in the first place. )

For all we know, someone who posts a 6 hour full to low battery, still has 18 hours worth of charge in the battery. ( I know 2 days ago I was getting like 4-8 hours of charge, and now I've gone about 17.5 hours and am reading 70 percent...granted after about the first 6 hours I turned off "enable always-on mobile data", but I still read 90 percent when I did that. )

Also: It is important you do NOT turn the phone off and back on. This resets info just like plugging it in. As such, I can't post data for this charge...once I hit 40% I'll charge back up since that is the ideal time for a Li-Ion anyways, then give it the full rundown, and I'll even try to remember to record things every half hour or so ( That I'm awake, hehe. )

Can you give me the location of this data? I'll add it to required.

I completely agree. I have been noticing my battery life getting better over the weekend. Guess there is some truth to the "condition/calibrated your battery"

Agree. Your statements indicate you didn't follow the test so I'm not going to include your data for this post. Did you maybe forget to start with the phone powered off? Your numbers make me think if was charging for a while since but Uptime and Awake increase when on charger.

I appreciate the help. Please verify and provide new numbers (in a new post).

Thanks.

For "Enable Always-On Mobile Data": Menu->Settings->Wireless and Networks->Mobile Networks

For Sync: Menu->Settings->Accounts and Sync

Also found some other interesting things with another user, and we are working to see what if any of it means. ( For example, click phone and dial *#*#4636#*#* and select Battery Information or Battery History for all sorts of battery information. )

Those screens do look interesting. Let me know if you find anything good. Hopefully we'll get enough data to get good "real world" battery numbers.

At a quick look everyone is running in the 20-25% awake. Not sure yet how to turn that and the battery percentages into anything meaningful. Guess I have something to think about at work tomorrow =)

Heres something to ponder. Under Battery Usage, Set the top box to Sensor Usage and second to Since Last Unplugged. Mine shows Calendar about twice as high up as Android System ( though Android has been catching up for awhile. ) I did notice in the calendar app, there is a setting involving weather for each day, so I disabled that. ( ATM Calendar is showing 5h 50m 50s while Android has 3h 11m 51s. Before I made the change, Android was staying right exactly with Awake Time, while Calendar was really close to Up Time. )

Also, if you want something to kill your battery... Googles Goggle is the way to go. It uses GPS, Network and Internet, G-Sensor, Camera and CPU...basically everything possible:)

It's an app that starts your camera, and checks for your GPS location. Then, using the G-sensor it can figure out where you are looking and post google maps spots for what you are looking at ( For example, if you point towards a pizza hut, it can pull up the google maps info for that pizza hut. ) and when you take a picture, it scans the image to pull out logos and text and opens the web browser to a google search for what it found ( Like if you take a picture of a Dr Pepper can, it will google Dr Pepper and Dr Pepper Logo ) The scan takes up CPU, plus the camera...its a serious power hog. I went through about 20 percent in about an hour or so of using it:)

I just realized that you can click on the individual apps listed to get more details about what the app was doing (like cpu time used, etc)

I have a feeling like this could be going into a rabbit hole. More and more data available but no meaningful results. Hope we can avoid that.

Aye, but it IS better to have too much info than not enough. Until we know better about what we do or do not need, it's best to take in as much as possible.

Hey guys, I was talking to zem yesterday in another forum and was directed to this post. Figured I'd give this a go as well in the name of science.

UpTime: 17:30:56
AwakeTime: 2:22:45
UnPlugged time: 17:33:49
Battery %: battery level is 17 ( using *#*#4636#*#* )
Wifi: Off
GPS: Off
Bluetooth: Off
Always on Mobile data: Off
Sync: 3 Facebook / Google / Weather

7b) Optional: Include application use under "Battery Use"

Unplugged time:
Application 1: Cell Standby 29 % time without signal 5%
Application 2: Phone Idle 25%
Application 3: Voice Calls 20%
Application 4: Android System 18%
Application 5: Display 6%
Application 6: Dialer 2%

For the biggest part of the day I left mobile data toggled off, and the weather sync.

Last night at around 8:00 I decided to turn them both on because realistically, I bought a phone with all the bells and whistles, Why not use them? It's like buying a Porsche and never take it out of the garage except to get the mail at the end of the drive.

All horrible analogies aside, upon starting the phone I did the " Airplane trick" and a couple of days ago I did the CDMA trick using the program code, But otherwise I used the phone as normal, It was rainy in TN so I stayed in most of the day. I tried to tinker with the phone every so often, but it wasn't exactly hard usage either.

If you'd like me to charge it up and give it another go with hard usage I'll be glad to, just let me know. Hope these figures help out.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'll add them to my list.

I'm a little curious how the unplugged time is greater then the Uptime. I don't believe that should be possible since UpTime is from when the phone is turned on. Is it possible you reversed the numbers?

One thing I would be curious to see is the data difference between the "Airplane trick", "CMDA trick" and "Regular". If you had time (and patience) to run without any tricks that would be great.

hope your not near the flooding.

just a quick comment; on day 5, after about 10 charges/recharges, I have definately noticed an improvement in battery life; phone has been on for 10 hours, moderately phone, email, music and texting, and still have 35% left..by now, in the last 4 days, I would have been on the charger, so, it may just need several cycles to stabilize the life of the battery..I ordered a Seido Sunday anyways, just to always have a spare battery around..

Been running my tests for awhile now...but numbers are going to be pretty sad. For some reason my Time Without Signal has gone from about 1-2 percent to 48%!!!!!!!

I have only made 1 phone call so far: about 5 mins and perfect quality. <shrug> Still trying to figure out why my TWOS is so high ( and naturally, cell standby is the highest at 43 percent. )

Oh, I also noticed under Network Usage I had 2 big users: Market ( expected...I was browsing the market for half an hour when I first got up...and this was about all I had done when I checkd. ) but also "Media" was just as high as the Market, though I haven't done anything media wise.

...I'm a little curious how the unplugged time is greater then the Uptime. I don't believe that should be possible since UpTime is from when the phone is turned on. Is it possible you reversed the numbers?...

I'm guessing they are the same time on his phone ( Phone was off while charging, then he unplugged before turning it on. )...then the discrepency is just the time it took for him to record 1 then the other.

I believe this is the case. The time in between me looking between the two variables was a few minutes. Could have been what threw it off. Sorry for that.

For my next test I am considering no airplane, no CDMA, and leaving Mobile data always on. I dont have anything that uses BT but I can turn the WIFI on and see how that affects the battery usage. I was also pretty fortunate to obtain an invite to Google Voice finally last night, so that will keep me tinkering while running the experiment.

I'm letting the phone charge up then I will give it a another go, If you would like to see other changes to the above listed settings then feel free to let me know and I'll be glad to oblige.

I am smack dab in the middle of the flooding, But it's drying up rather quickly today, and no major damage at my house. I appreciate your concern very much.

Well, I used my phone less than half as much as the previous 2 days...and it lasted about 1/4 the time. I think that 48 percent Time Without Signal was part of it, but not all. I've got something eating my Battery. Anyways, heres my final results:

UpTime: 18:00:23
AwakeTime: 3:44:08
UnPlugged time: 16:58:58
Battery %: 9% ( using *#*#4636#*#* )
Voltage: 3.587
Wifi: Off
GPS: On
Bluetooth: Off
Always on Mobile data: Off
Sync: 3 Facebook / Google / Twitter ( Set to 1 hour. )

7b) Optional: Include application use under "Battery Use"

Cell Standby 37 % time without signal 41%
Android: 25%
Phone Idle: 23%
Display 8%
Robo Defense 3%
Voice Calls 2%
Trap! 2%

Medium usage. Games for about 2 hours total, 30 min browsing market, about 15-20 text, 5 min phone call and a call to *228, about 5 emails. My time using the phone was under 4 hours! Something went seriously wrong with this one:( I spent more time with google goggles running yesterday, yet alone the other 20 hours of stuff I did on that charge.

Complete writeup with breakdowns nearly every 30 min:

Eep. Glad you have no major damage! Just make sure to keep your Inc dry:)

How did you only lose 10% of your battery life while you were sleeping? I've been unable to lose less than 30%. Did you put it on Airplane mode or something?

Wow. 30%? That is extreme. It sounds like you have something not letting your phone sleep. Can you compare your Awake Time to the Up Time? Up time should be a good deal higher than your awake time after sleeping.

..and 10 percent was worse than I got the previous night. ( I think 6 percent )

I did not use airplane mode. I have always on mobile data off, bluetooth off, and wifi off. ( GPS on, but GPS does not work like the others. If no app is specifically trying to use the GPS, the GPS turns off and uses 0 power. ) I still had everything set to sync every hour. Can you check your battery usage to see what is eating the power while you sleep also? It should be almost entirely Phone Idle and Cell Standby. You can also check the usages in the battery usage section after dialing *#*#4636#*#*

Hi everyone, here are my stats using a Seidio 1750 mAh extended battery for the Eris but in the Incredible of course:

I removed the phone from the charger just after midnight last night (May 3rd 2010):

UpTime: 25:10:20
AwakeTime: 10:13:23
Battery %:6 %
Wifi: On (Only on for 2 hours 25 minutes)
GPS: Off
Bluetooth: Off

Unplugged time: 22:03:02
cell standby: 27%
android system :24 %
phone idle : 23%
voice calls: 11%
display: 7%
wi-fi: 4%
dialer: 3%

22hr 4min since unplugged

My usage pattern: basically a fairly even mix of reading emails (46), calls (47 mins), texts (20), android market downloads (6 apps), watched a video from podkast (6 mins), listened to a couple audio podkasts, watched the new Boondocks Season 3 ep 1 for 23 minutes (converted the video to H.264 mp4), used touiteur for about 15 minutes, listened to music for about an hour, and composed a couple of emails throughout the day.

All in all a pretty good run I'd say -- now if you guys are getting those kind of numbers from the stock battery, guess who's gonna be returning an extended battery? :p

Wow, almost all of the results that have come in say 20+ hours uptime.. I only go about 5-6 hours of uptime between charges. It's not that bad for me because I'm almost always near a computer but I have been charging 3-4 times a day. Also, I have been a very heavy user, I can't put the thing down lol. I was at the auto parts store today and I wanted to compare prices so I checked out a competitor's price, found their phone number on the website, clicked on the number and it called them directly. It was awesome! I'm in awe. I would still like to get at least 10 hours of uptime though..

Your data points to a higher Utilization % (AwakeTime/Uptime) then others- 40% vs 15-20 for others. With that usage your extended battery should go 26.7hrs. If you switched to the basic, you might be looking at only 19.8 hours. (I'm assuming linear relationship between 1750 and 1300 battery).
