Help Calibration Bug/Hardware Issue?

I got my Incredible on launch and it was working perfectly up until a few days ago. I can't seem to find much information so maybe I just received a faulty device, but it's been a major issue for an otherwise phenomenal device.

Something seems sketchy about my touch screen responsiveness or calibration, most frequently when using the portrait-orientation QWERTY keyboard (less often in landscape-mode). The lower-right portion of the display will work fine for a few minutes and then get "stuck," and start entering something along the lines of " u u uuuu g h tuuuu ggu." Spacebar-area seems to be most affected. Sometimes the Edit Text menu will appear, or the screen will start scrolling haphazardly and selecting random portions of whatever app or prog I'm using. I don't type that quickly so it's not like I'm getting ahead of the touch screen's (usually amazingly fast) responsiveness. It seems like the screen freezes and there's no haptic feedback touching any portion of the screen or the home/menu/etc. quick-access keys. Optical trackball still works in most instances (when the program hasn't gone completely haywire..)

The first two times this happened I was in direct sunlight, which seemed odd. Now it's happening at random.

My quick fix has been to hit the power/standby key, which temporarily resets the calibration. Prolonged keyboard use (more than a few minutes) brings the problem back in which case I go to settings and reset the calibration to factory default. Several times I have had to perform a battery-pull because I can't get the phone to come out of standby, or the lock screen will not register taps (menu key doesn't work either).

Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas/suggestions?? I don't want to resort to a hard reset or swap out for new hardware unless I'm positive it's something that I can't fix or won't be fixed.

Yes!! That was one of the many issues I had with mine. I got my new Incredible today via Fed Ex. My touch screen was just like that, but it would also stick between screens, H and G buttons would not function and the right side of the screen was unresponsive. Verizon sent me a brand new phone. I was not even schedule to be shipped until the 14th, but I got it today. This one has been perfect so far

thanks! Glad to hear someone else is having similar issues. I gave in and did a hard reset last night and continued to have the same issue setting up my phone during that first hour, but now it seems to be fine. I'm thinking of going in to the B&M verizon this weekend to see they think it's a hardware issueand get a replacement, but if it's software I guess I just have bad luck and will have to wait until they root the phone :(
