although I do believe the signal strength on the Inc. may not be as strong as some other phones there is SO much wrong with your "evidence" its not even funny.

- signal "bars" are EXTREMELY inaccurate, you could have at least used the the DB meters...

- your testing two phones NEXT to each other? don't know much about radio and interference do you.

Means Jack poop. Eris always had low bars but was able to make calls when my storm2 failed, research a little before posting ignorant crap, bars mean nothing if they do to you, go buy an iPhone. Ill do some low signal testing soon.

You're wrong. It's already been determined that the meter graphic (bars) that you are looking to use to prove your point are "off" on the Incredible. To really get a look at the signal, look at the actual signal strength (dB):

On Storm: Options > Status > Signal - The first thing listed will be "Signal" with a number that looks like this: -88 dBm

On Incredible: Menu > Settings > About Phone > Network - The second thing listed will be "Signal strength" with the same type of number.

The lower the number, the worse the signal. -50 dBm is the best signal reading you can expect to get, and after -100 dBm is starting to get bad.

Anyway, post those numbers here if you can. I have a Storm 1 and Incredible right here; Storm 1: -89 dBm; Incredible: -82 dBm.

I doubt he will post up side by side pictures now when he sees the dBm's are very similar to each other. They just need to lock this thread. Its getting annoying with all these threads of battery and signal issues. People need to search and read before deciding to open another thread.

Quite the signal issues!! There are none! Do a side-by-side with dB! My previous Blackberry Bold 9000 never saw anything stronger than -70 in my appartment on AT&T. My Incredible is seeing -63 as I type on Verizon.

Your signal icon on the storm is showing 1x, 1XEV is 3G on the storm (actually storm 2 might have changed it to 3G, I cant remember), so your comparison is fail because the storm is not even picking up 3G.

I owned a storm and it was the biggest piece of shit ever created. Never compare the Incredible to the Storm, its like comparing rotten dog turds to delicious chocolate treats.

But yes, there is no issue. My Incredible does just as well as my girlfriend's Droid and her father's nV2, we all checked them just the other night. Her father has worked in telecommunications and I was talking to him about cell phones and the new infrastructure of data and phones these days. We all pulled out our phones and started geeking out about stuff.

I promise, the only issue is with the person using the phone.

This isn't a very good test. The Incredible only goes up to 4 bars, while the Blackberry has 5. I also believe the tower on the signal bar counts on the Blackberry as it can be there with no bars and have a signal. So that's 6 on one and 4 on the other. I think 1 on the bar that goes to 4 is probably pretty close to 3 actual bars on the other. Also the signal bars can be programmed to show whatever the manufacturers want and may not be the same dB's to bars on different phones.

While I do agree it would have been better to see the actual signal number, it is very alarming to have come from a phone that was at full "bars" at home, office, etc to an amazing phone like the DINC only to find you are getting 1 "Bar" or none. Clearly, HTC could have and hopefully will calibrate the damn thing to look more accurate. After all, we are all aware of this issue via the forums, but not word one was mentioned by the Verizon rep at time of purchase. They could have said something along the lines of "Don't freak out when your phone looks like it does not have signal EVER."

Lets patch this up HTC... otherwise why put the signal bars there at all?

That could be true if everyone lived in the same spot as people not having trouble. Some people may be having trouble due to distance from a given tower/antenna, or being relatively equidistant from multiple towers (where the phone/tower may have trouble managing the connection), or be in areas not affected by other factors, such as structures and other interference.

I'm sure the people having QoS issues, such as garbled speech, audio droput, echo, and signal loss just want confirmation of the cause, be it device or network.

I believe this is an important part of the discrepancy on the Incredibles signal bar reading. In Cincinnati (and in other areas), Verizon uses 850MHz for voice and 1900MHz for data. When the phone is not on an active call, it shows a lower signal strength because 1900MHz is a higher frequency which is affected more by attenuation (building material, distances, etc...) Once you place a call, the phone will usually jump 1-2 bars showing the stronger 850MHz reading. If you notice when sending or receiving a text message, the phone will briefly show a "1X" and the signal will jump. This is because text messages use the underlying voice channels.

This is my theory anyway.

dB numbers in a weaker area is key. In strong areas, I have seen Droid and Inc both have -64db signal, but Droid showed 4 bars and Inc 2 bars. I have also seen the Inc show 4 bars with a -89 dB signal, which makes no sense.

DO NOT TRUST THE INC"S BARS FOR GOOD OR BAD RESULTS.

Same here I hardly ever see my 3G icon on.
