Root Need Help Choosing Best ROM for my Droid

I'm planning on rooting my Droid and then installing a custom ROM. The problem is, there are so many out there! Which is the best currently? I like the Bugless Beast one, but I want the forum's opinion.

Also: Is there any way I can get ROM Manager without paying the $4? Same goes to SetCPU for Droid.

you cant get premium but the standard rom manager is free. setcpu is free but you have to do some research (see xda-developers). i am running bb v1 with the darkedge theme (only team chaos' version will work with bb) but i would suggest going with a rom that comes complete with a theme like nexbeast or jrummy.
take time to learn young padawan. lots of info to absorb.

Iuse bugles beast with smoked glass and love it. Jusyt search for setcpu in google and click on the xda link. You dont actluly need setcpu ifnu use bugless beast because it does it flor you.

keep in mind team chaos breaks live wallpaper over bb. the chaos guys told me to push livewallpaper.apk from the bb installation but im still trying to figure out how to do that lol

Alright thanks. I just want the ROM manager Premium because of how it has OTA updates and has the list of ROms and such.

Also keep in mind regarding Rom Manager; Rom and theme developers don't see any money from this. Every rom and theme has links in rom manager for donations. Please donate to the individuals if you like their work. Freeloading sux.

That is correct, there are many ROMs and how good they are will depend on what you are looking for. I would suggest you start with the one you like, test it as much as you can and backup your personalizations and move on to the next ROM.

These guys are doing all this work and you want to get it for free. I would suggest you use the free version (ROM Manager) and find the custom ROMs yourself and manage the releases yourself. I myself have the free version but I am thinking of buying the premium as I love installing custom ROMs and their tool makes it a lot easier to do so.

Free version give you Koushs rom, a few kernel choices, that's about it. And of course, superior backups.
Paid gives you a full menu of roms, themes, launchers, fonts, etc. The paid version unlocks all these. Pick your favorites, and send them some cash through their respective donation links. These people don't have to share their work with us. They can keep it exclusively among their buddies. Just the ridiculous repetitive questions they have to answer every day alone justifies a few bux their way.

ROMS are like a$$holes, they are all different but serve the same function.

Popular ones seem to be:
Bugless Beast
NexBeast
Cyanogen

In that order, or so it seems.

I suggest looking at each ROMs feature list and changelogs, as well as bugs. I wouldn't use a ROM that has a video recorder bug when a similar one doesn't have that bug.

Better suggestion:
BU your apps and data with Titanium Backup
Nandroid everything
Wipe 3x and load a new ROM
Titanium restore all apps and data
Test it out - battery, speed, smoothness, looks, functionality
Name each nandroid with the date and the type
Once you have some nandroid images with apps of a few ROMs, you can triple wipe and load the ROM image you already have set up so you can test between a couple further down the road if you want.

This is what I do from time to time, but I always come back to BB

If you can afford the verizon service, you surely can afford to cough up a few extra bucks for an easy installation if you want to run software that far exceeds the stock software. Otherwise you can do some research and learn how to install new software manually.

Look at it like this, you have the option to pay or not to pay for a complete haul over for your phone versus individual applications designed for a specific purpose. I see some applications that aren't worth a penny, yet people are trying to charge 9.99 for it plus .99 for each add on.
