Downloaded cyanogen 5.0.7 today, let's just say I am really happy. Not just because it is 2.1, but wow because it is faster, more features, access to eclair apps, slider unlock screen with a sound on/off slider (for the movies ), nexus one splash screens and wallpapers and ringtones. More settings and options.
For all those who have been saying I am going to root and haven't you are missing out on this one. I really like cyanogen because they have a wiki with step by step directions, a forum to ask questions, a twitter feed, a Facebook page, awesome support. And they have announced they will continue to work on the G1 as far as 2.2. The sdk has been released and cyanogen is already looking at it for the G1/mt3g.
Did I mention it is fast and stable.
Did I mention automatic apps 2 SD.

Just wanted to update everyone after running Cyanogen 5.0.7 for several days I have had it up and running for about 5 days. It has remained fast and stable. I did reboot today as ithe voice dialer kept suggesting results that were not even close. Battery life is really good. I have to say I am really impressed. I am having one issue but am not sure it is cyanogen or the market, but downloads sometimes stall or take a few minutes to start. Other than that it is as fast as 1.6 and I have 512MB partion for apps plus on phone storeage the additional settings added in cyanogen are cool. There is a blacklist button on the phone. There are tons of extra settings in the browser. You can set rotation to standard or 270 degress or 360. You can allow the home screen to rotate. Google maps updates to 4.2. To many new options to remember. This is everything you have been waiting for with the exception of flash, hopefully they can get it working in the next version. Thanks Steve and Team.

So I am in the market today and I download 3 apps that I hadn't gotten around to uploading and I get a low disk space notification. What the HELL! I thought I had apps2sd so I start looking around in spare parts and settings to see if I am missing something. I stumble upon a setting for apps2sd. It is a checkbox and says install all new apps to sd card,so I check it and wait a few moments and still I have only 6MB so I figure the key word is new. So I go to manage apps to uninstall and reinstall some apps. When I go into mange apps and select one I notice there is a button next to uninstall labeled move. In the stats for the app it shows internal. So I hit the move button and the little circle starts spinning and the screen comes back and the stat show sd now. This is awesome I can now choose where an app resides. I can keep things like google maps on the phone for max speed and other apps that I rarely use go sd card for space saving. SWEEET!

Awesome find. Been trying to figure out how to get certain apps onto the sd card without having to remove and then re-install.

Top tip!

Dark TL ryder...dumb question here as I should probably Google around, but if I root my G1 do I backup all my contacts...text messages etc? I assume I can backup the pics and music on my SD card easily enough....are apps able to be backed up somehow?

Also wondering if I should wait for 2.2...

Nice bike you got, I am huge fan of twins, I have an RC51!! :D
