Help evo running hot?

Evo is my first smart phone so I dont know if this is common, but when I use the phone consecutively for say 30 mins + the back of my phone gets warm, then gets hotter and hotter, especially when using the internet. is this normal or is my phone at fault?

Very much normal. Especially when you have a weak signal and using the internet.

Definitely noticing the unit getting hot. My iPhone never got remotely warm. It doesn't bother me. Definitely doesn't bother me as much as not bding able to figure out how to delete the bookmarks that came in the HTC bookmarks widget.

The more you use it, and the longer, the hotter it will get.
My Rooted Hero would run between 88-105F, if it got any hotter I did a soft reset. But only because I was running a custom overclocked ROM.

The Stock Evo *Shouldn't* get hot enough to hurt itself. It should be programmed to turn off if it gets too got.

To see exactly how hot it is, use spare parts, and look at the battery info.

Or download "BatteryLife" it's a battery widget that will show you the current temp.

Edit: To delete the stock Bookmarks, just bring up the stock browser, hit Menu, hit bookmarks, longpress on the bookmark you would like to be deleted, a menu will pop up, click delete.

A good top for Android, when in doubt, longpress, if that doesn't work, hit menu and see what happens.

I haven't noticed that all. Quite the opposite really. Phone has been relatively cool the whole time

I noticed the same thing when I was in a heavy concrete building (convention center) and 4G was on. Even though I wasn't on the phone, it was getting hot in my pocket. I turned off the 4G because there was no 4G signal inside the building and it cooled down after that.

i just had a 10 minute video call (fring/skype) and it got hot quick!

Welcome to the world of smartphones. The phone will get hot when it has weak signal and is looking for one. It will get warm/hot when you use wifi....its normal.

I am typing on my Mac Book Pro rite now & my left hand is sweeting from the heat. My Palm Pre was like handling a hot potato most of the time. What I noticed first off with the EVO, it does not seem to get even warm at all & I have used it almost continuosly since yesterday except for sleeping. It also woke me up this AM. Love the night clock/alarm...

I have shut mine down a few times using the hotspot app feeding 6 devices..

It gives a warning message and shuts down..

It was 90+ outside and it was on the seat of my mobile office..

All that said it has not gotten warmer than other device with similar features.

It what it is all devices running these specs under the same condition are going to do the same..

run a fan on it when at home. my xbox does the same thing.

run a fan on it when you can. i have to do this with many electronics. 3g smart card was one.

Only gets hot when I use it with 4G on, but not actually using it.
Like it gets hot when I'm playing a game, with 4G on.
Maximum has been 110F. Minimum has been something like 70F.

I think there is a design flow with the SD card lock on the evo. After a while, the lock no longer has enough pressure to hold the SD card in place making heat up.
I took my SD card out and now my phone is cold as a cucumber.

Just remember that your smartphone is basically a little computer. The heat generated from intense CPU processing, heavy web browsing, navigation usage, or anything really, has to go somewhere.

A little warmth is nothing to be worried about and it is quite normal. I hope this alleviates some worries here.
