New Verizon "Private Sale" Promotion

I just ordered a Incredible Sunday (13th) which will be delivered sometime in the next two months:thinking: (I hope).
Anyway, I am existing customer and had a momentary window flash up when I logged in to my VZ account manager today which indicated that they are having a "Private Sale" where they are giving $50.00 off of new smartphone upgrades for existing customers. It also indicated that discount would be deducted at checkout.
Boy, was I ever P****ed since I ordered one two days ago for $200.00.

So... I called CSR and they promptly informed me that it was "in Store" promotion and does not apply to online orders.

WHY are they promoting it online and I didn't see anything indicating that it was in store only.
Naturally, when I went back into my account manager, it was gone.

I actually got a flyer in the mail about this private sale. I ordered my Inc. on may 24th and received this flyer last week. When I called the number on the flyer and talked to the CSR she gladly said that my account would be credited the $50 savings I would've received on my next bill since I had already paid for the phone. I'd call back and try another CSR because it's good for online orders as well

OK, today I decided to research this a little more and found a post or two in another forum that indicated that the PRIVATE SALE is good until June 30th but you have to call a special number for the promotion (877-421-0013).

So, What the heck, I called the number and was told I could get it but that I would have to allow them to cancel my online order and re-initiate it from their end.
She also informed me it may result in further delay in delivery of my phone(new promise by date was same as online promise by date).
Also..The $50.00 is in the form of a coupon that will, eventually, get you a temporary Visa card with $100.00 prepaid credit after you pay $250.00 up front for the phone.
We went through the whole routine and I balked because my sales tax went up due the $50.00 increase over my $199.00 online order.
CSR quickly said that she would give me an additional $60.00 credit on my VZ bill within the next 2 billing cycles for renewing contract for 2 years.
Sooo. I went ahead and changed it since I initially ordered my phone on the 13th of June and final delivery date did not change.
Also, I figure I will eventually come out at least $95.00 ahead overall.

Dealing with Verizon has always been a circuis:eek:

i have gotten about 3-4 flyers in the mail about this, one text on my phone and a couple emails.
not sure why they said you had to call the number to get it. on all the promotions it says that you can do it over the phone OR in-store.

i was going to do this... but my upgrade date is in august... and since there's no stock anywhere i figure i'll hold out and see if they start handing out better offers.

The same thing happened to me. I ordered my Inc. one night and the next morning I got a text notifying me about the Private sale.

I called CS and spoke with a Rep who said that it would apply. But she said she would call me back on June 17 to let me know how much of the credit, ($50 on Smart phones) would apply to me. (I presume they wanted some corporate guidance)

So I may get it for $49 if I'm lucky

The private sale was supposed to be for "high churn potential" customers. Ones where a member of their family possibly took their line and ported it to another carrier and they might be likely to do the same, or it might just randomly show up for some people. It is a $25/$50 promo. $25 if you are moving to a 3G phone and $50 to go to a smartphone. This doesn't apply to everyone but it CAN be used in conjunction with a NE2 credit if you have one available to you.

Like I say... "poop happens... it's how well it gets cleaned up that counts"

Every company out there has a million special deals going... just the way things work these days but at least with Verizon they did the right thing... twice.

Try that same scenario with ATT and compare... I think it would result in

A couple of weeks ago I was in the store looking at the phone. They told me 200 for the phone after 100 dollar mail in rebate and 50 dollar early upgrade fee because my renew date was in August. That would have been 350 out of pocket with a 100 dollar rebate card in the mail. Less that a week later I got the flier in the mail stating I was eligible for the upgrade now and 50 bucks off the phone. I went to the verizon store and also got 100 dollar instant rebate instead of mail in. I ended up paying 150 bucks out the door. When I asked about the renewal date jumping up 2 months they said verizon was doing this for ex Alltel customers. If I didn't upgrade by June 30th the early upgrade offer was void and my upgrade date went back to August. Anyone know why Verizon did this?

The early upgrade offers are for the main line on any plan. they let you upgrade 10 months into a 1 yr contract ( 20 months for 2 yrs). This is only a $20 fee, not $50. That instant credit is something that verizon offers because Alltel used to. The private sale will eventually come to an end, so that MAY be the reason you would have had your date moved back, but if you are the primary, after ten months you can upgrade and that offer wont go away.

I had ordered my DInc on 6/3 which was my first day of eligability of "New Every Two" for a bottom line of $99. Then I got the Private Sale flyer in the mail the very next week.

I just called the number on the flyer and (politely) asked if there was any way that I could still take advantage of the deal. My rep issued me a $50 bill credit making my effective cost $49 for my phone.

Not too shabby. Now all I need is MY PHONE! I'm hoping that it will ship next week.

we just upgraded my sons phone and they gave me early offers on the other two phones on my plan, good until the end of the month. My wife opted to keep her LG as she only uses hers for text and calls. If she doesn't upgrade by June 30th she will have to wait until August which is the 20 months into the plan
