Jason,

I am having the EXACT same problems here too. I was just about to post a screenshot and new thread except it looks exactly like yours. Anyone have any additional thoughts? Power cycling now, but I keep task killing it and it keeps coming back. What gives with Google's own app being reckless with its battery consumption?

I have found google maps to bekind of erratic. For example, friday i was using google navigation to find a restaurant. Found the place and closed the app. It didn't do anything while driving around later. The next morning i put my phone down on my coffee table. I wasn't even using it or near it for quite awhile. Suddenly out of the blue a womans voice is coming from the living room, trying to navigate me back to the restaurant.

I have found google maps to keep pulling up old searches and driving directions every time i open it. I 'clear all' map data every time and it just keeps coming back.

This never happened on google maps for the iphone or the palm pre.

I'd suspect your battery usage is coming from your GPS radio always being on when you don't need it.

I recommend the Power Control widget (start at the lower-right + sign, go to widgets).

I control my radios explicitly, to save power.

Don't know if that's your issue or not....

Hmmmm. The shot you provided usually covers some past history - maybe it's showing the preponderance of Maps use earlier?

Weird.

Try installing SystemPanelLite (if you don't have it or the regular version already) and see if it's really still running. That tool will let you see system process and background process CPU consumption.

Please let us know.
