Help Notification Sound Settings/help

Kate,
Thanks for moving the post to the appropriate forum!

Hadron,
Vibrate and ring is definitely not standard on my phone. All Vibrate related settings I have under Sounds are:

1) Vibrate (Vibration feedback for calls) / ON, but not related
2) Vibrate on touch (Vibrate when buttons are pressed) / ON, but not related

I honestly believe the OS release I have does not do this (which is crazy).

I bought it through the AT&T website with 2-year contract.

thanks,
Simon

Hmm, ATT don't have the rep for fouling things up that say vzw have, but being European I don't have direct experience of their software.

But Vibrate (Vibration feedback for calls) is what I was thinking of. I tested it on mine before posting and toggling that when using the Normal profile enabled/disabled vibrating when it rang.

Does the phone vibrate for anything?

Just a thought: do you leave the phone in power saving mode? If so, check that the power saver isn't disabling vibration: Settings > Power, then long-press on the words "Power saver" to access the power saver settings. There's a tick box in there for "vibration", and if that's ticked it will turn vibration off.

I was just thinking that there might be something conflicting with your vibration settings, and that it had to be something hidden away where you'd not spot it, and this is the one thing I could think of.

I have the HTC One that is about 18 months old. Everything was functioning normally until this morning. I have completely lost text message sounds. I was using Handcent and tried deleting that with no luck. I cannot even get a test sound through settings. The remainder of the sounds including music, ringtones and speaker are working fine. I have tried rebooting with no success. The only thing I haven't tried that I can think of is a factory reset. I haven't downloaded any new apps but several were updated yesterday.

HTC One problems with no sound when making or receiving calls. A friend of mine has a HTC One and so do l, on the weekend my friend told me that he had lost sound and could not hear anything when making or receiving calls, text and web still worked, today l had the same problem. I tried shutting down the phone but to no avail, after calling Telstra and being on hold for 15 min and explaining my problem l was directed to another department who told me the only option was to reset the phone but l would loose all contents. then l was transferred to billing who asked what new handset l would prefer and l would be put on a new contract that would cost me $185. I did refuse the offer and stated that l was calling to FIX my phone not get a new contract and phone. Frustrated l connected my phone to the computer and did a backup and then a factory reset and then reloaded the files that did fix the issue. Not long after this l received a call from Telstra stating that this was a known problem with all HTC Ones and was software related, to fix it all you have to do is UNCHECK the FAST BOOT OPTION and then restart the phone, no need for a factory reset, the phone is working fine now. No thanks to Telstra.

There has been a recent problem of this sort caused by Google updates. Clearing data for Google Play Store, Google Play Services and Google Services Framework should fix it.

When Google mess up it is insidious because these apps update silently, and Play Store is the only one you interact with directly. Hence the user is unaware anything has changed, except suddenly something misbehaves. A carrier should be better placed to work it out, since when they get reports of a new fault affecting an 18 month old phone model, then they can work out that there must be a common factor (while an individual only knows their phone isn't working). If it starts at a time when they've not issued an update, then the most likely common software updates would be would either a HTC Service Pack or a Google update, and HTC will have tested it with the particular device, Google less likely. But I doubt any carrier has many people working on such things - I'd actually give them credit for getting back to you at all, even if too late.

Notification vibrations keep repeating over and over until i swipe them away.

I just updated my HTC ONE M7 to the new lollipop version (5.0.2) with Sense 6.0 and now all my notifications are endless until i click on them or swipe them away.

For example, if I am sleeping and receive an email or facebook post notification in the middle of the night, it will vibrate and then go silent for 10 seconds, then it will vibrate and go silent for 10 seconds, and on and on. This happens in the daytime too, just super annoying at night when you are trying to sleep.

I have tried to play with the new Notification settings, but the only way I can get my apps to stop the infinite vibration sequence is to turn off notifications for that app altogether and this defeats the purpose of having Notifications in the first place.

Anyone else having this problem?

Hi, welcome to Android Forums.

You could try a 'Wipe cache partition' first, it only takes a couple of minutes and doesn't affect your data or settings. I do it after every update and at intervals between updates and so far have avoided having to do a Factory Reset after OS updates.

The procedure for 'wipe cache partition' has changed slightly after the last update and is as follows :-

Switch device off.

Press and hold Volume Down and Power, release them when you see the screen with three Androids on skateboards (takes about 20 seconds)

Tap Volume Down to highlight 'Recovery', tap Power to select.

After about 45 seconds 'Android system recovery' screen will come up. Tap Volume Down to highlight 'Wipe cache partition', tap Power to select.

Wait for 'cache wipe completed' at bottom of screen with 'Reboot system now' highlighted.

Tap Power to select.

It has cleared a number of issues after OS updates for me. The only thing I noticed after the 5.0.2 update was the weather/time widget was frozen ie. I couldn't change the city and it wasn't updating. The 'wipe cache partition' fixed it.

I hope it clears your notification problem.

As a matter of interest I've only resorted to a Factory Reset once since June 2013 when I got my M7, and that was when the screen decided to do it's own thing and wasn't responding properly.

:)

Notification vibrations keep repeating over and over until i swipe them away.

Hi, if you're still having this problem go to Settings - Accessibility, scroll down to 'System' and make sure that 'Notification reminder' is switched off.

:)

This is driving me CRAZY!
Ever since android 5.0.2 os came out I get a notification sound for all apps - separate to the one I assigned to them.
I can't find a way to turn it off because it has nothing to do with the app.
I can turn off the app notification, I can mute a discussion and while I may not get the app notification I will get this android os one.
I have went into settings, sounds and notification and made sure the settings were correct. I went into the app and turned off the notification and yet I still get this chime.
I was told I could swipe down from my home scree and find the lollipop setting but when I swipe down I just get the normal phone settings.
I have an HTC One.
Please help!!
Thanks

Hi PCDH, welcome to Android Forums. I have an M9 and an M7, both on 5.0.2 - the screenshot is taken on the M7 (Settings-Sound & notification) The notification sounds are the ones I have chosen and the full range of sounds are available for each function. Could you be more specific about the 'android os one' - I didn't get anything like that with the M7.

You could try a 'Wipe cache partition' - as far as I remember the 5.0.2 OS upgrade went without any problems on my M7, but I did get the odd glitch or two with some of the previous OS upgrades, all of which were successfully cleared with a 'Wipe cache partition'.

@AZgl1500 - I guess it's down to individual requirements - I was so impressed with the M7 I had no hesitation in upgrading to the M9 and have no regrets whatsoever - I think it's a superb device which does everything I need it to do.

As silly as this sounds the issue was when Lollipop was download it reverted some settings to a default position.
While I turned off the app notifications there was one area I found that I did not.
Settings - Accessibility - Notification reminder - was turned on. Previously it was off but on the OS download it was turned back on.
Thanks for your suggestions though!
Paul
p.s. I love the HTC One (original)!
