Help How do you delete mail in trash folder??

I have the exact same problem as u.
I have to select each message 1 at a time.
Then over 600 clicks later, I find that they've only been moved to another folder named "bin".
Here's the best bit..... there's no way to empty or even delete the messages in this folder!
I've tried on the app & the web.
I'm using an android phone.
Irritating.

My Galaxy SIII has the latest Andriod version. If you go into Combined Inbox, hit the menu at the top and go to Show all folders. Select Trash. Now your thousands of trash e-mails appear - you want to collapse all the headers (mine has Today, Yesterday, Older, etc...). Thankfully after a certain point you just get an 'Older' folder. Once collapsed, check the box next to each header, STARTING AT THE BOTTOM and working your way up. Then his trash and wait - a long time. Eventually they will all be deleted. Happy trash day! :D

Clearly this topic has been mentioned numerous times before but I am unable to find a solution to the problem with the stock email app and its inability to allow us to globally, enmasse, all at once, delete the email that accumulates in the trash folder.

Desperately hoping that someone has a solution that I've overlooked. I've over 4,000 messages and I can't believe the only solution is to delete them again one-by-one despite having initially chosen to delete them. I've now discover they've merely been moved to this ever expanding trash folder. The only options I have when I long press Trash folder is Open it or Refresh it. Opening it and tapping the menu key doesn't show any delete or select all.

What were they thinking and why haven't they still caught a clue and provided this option?

Thank you for the help.

Hi there
I am new to android but persevered with the email as I thought there had to be an answer. Go in to the first email in your Recycle bin. Tap and hold for a second or so. Select All will come up in top right hand corner in blue type. Press select all and you will see Delete and the trash bin at the bottom of the screen. Press this and all will be deleted. Maggie

Bell Canada Note 4 Android 5.1.1
Empty Trash

CAUTION! WHEN YOU DO THIS ALL GMAIL TRASH IS DELETED - BOTH PHONE AND LAPTOP etc.

When you empty Trash, messages are permanently deleted from your Gmail account and can’t be recovered.

In the Gmail app, touch the menu (3 horizontal lines, upper left corner)
Select Trash.
Touch the menu More.
Touch Empty Trash.

I'm just glad i was able 2 do it.REMEMBER CLEAR OUT AT HOME/WORK PC/DESKTOP AND OR YOUR LAPTOP you guys... THAT IS THE TRICK. how horrid GMAIL instructions do not have this in clear format smh
My ordeal is done finally after almost a week..

I finally figured out,"how to email again and receive emails on GMAIL after i delete six thousand trash emails from my cell phone, and not only from my home computer. That was the BIG ISSUE! i cleared out google drive, old recordings to old pix and stuff like that. junk mail...spam but NOT until i cleared out thousands of emails from cell phone, is when TODAY i was FINALLY receiving/sending emails again utilizing gmail..(after 5 long days!) smh

good luck all."

There seems to be confusion between the standard(?) Android EMail program / App which does not have a name apart from Mail and GMail. Most of the messages seems to be referring to buttons or commands available on GMail but not relevant to the standard Android mail program / App.

The gmail app is the default mail app for Android. Any other email clients installed on the phone are put there by the device manufacturer or carrier and can have completely different menu options from version to version.
