Help M8 Android TV Box - Sound Gone

Hi,

I have today received my Android M8 TV box and been going through the regular set upstuff. However, Ive somehow managed to loose the sound. I've been through all settings but cannot seem to get the sound back on (and I have tried the mute & volume buttons on the TV box remote).

Once I switch the TV back to TV the sound is there!

Can anybody please help, it is so frustrsting!

Thanks
I was having a similar problem, no sound would come out our sound bar when using android. One of the solutions I had seen was to use an optical cable from TV to sound bar, but our TV has no optical cable port! Instead of running the HDMI cable from the android to the tv, I ran it from the android to the HDMI in port on the soundbar and tadaaa! It works!

Hey guys,

I had the same problem on my M8S. I observed that each time I fired up a 5.1 movie my sound went down on whole system, not only in Kodi. Everything was fine with 2.0 movies. What worked for me (so far) was to navigate to kodi audio settings and set Number of channels to 2.0. (that is NOT number of speakers, you still get 5.1 with this setting).

lemme know if it works for you
I believe you are correct in your assessment. I first noticed the issue with loss audio when I changed the audio output settings from 2.0 to 7.1. The last time audio was lost, I noticed the 5.1 indicator for about 1 second on a movie I was playing before the loss. What was interesting is that the movie actually was a 2.0 audio movie. I have changed the setting back to 2.0 and will let you know if the problem occurs again. I also agree that changing this setting to 2.0 will not limit or restrict audio if going thru HDMI or S/PDIF.

i had a problem with no sound on a m8 box but the fix should work for other android boxs aswell
on your m8 go to settings/advanced/scroll down to Digital audio auto-detection and make sure its on
sometimes after reinstalling the android operating system its off so might be worth having a look there if you have any sound problem first

Good Day, Eh. ok folks I had the same issues, fine on TV but no sound with M8 Box. tried every single solution on the net and no go. Ok, maybe you should sit down, the solution is mind blowing easy, on your M8 Box remote control second row of buttons fromthe top there are two, one left side and one right side. Click on the right side and turn volume up, DONE!!!!! I have ZERO idea as to why it turned down as all was fine the night before. A simple solution that took me three hours to discover by ruling out things one by one. Hope this helps, cheers :)

I made a change to the remote control settings through "Settings>Advanced>Remote Control" and turned it to ON. I did this after a failure on my LAN (it was not longer seeing the MXQ). I thought the Remote Control setting had been corrupted and thus turned it ON (a long time since I even looked at this). Anyway, my sound problem was directly caused by this being turned ON. It was delayed, it took at least a day to affect the sound, but the sound was restored as soon as I turned it OFF.
My apologies to the experts, but I'm posting this for all us idiots out there.

Mi two cents. I got to this thread because my m8c lost the sound only in kodi on android and 4k app worked fine. So i tried everything posted here and nothing worked. I decided to do a fresh start on kodi and erase all settings via maintenance tool add on, restarted and my sound in kodi was back and the red speaker sign finally gone! I lost sound trying to play a file with DTS sound

Mine does the same , I dont think its anything to do with the settings, it almost like the HDMI audio has been switched off from the box , I can do aything I want from my settings and it wont come back on even if you flash the box with a new image or reset it completley the audio wont return , If i plug it in to a suround amp and cycle through the settings (pcm/DD/stereo) etc it comes back on , but if i plug it in to my TV it will drop back off at some point and never come back on , problem with these boxes is that there is no real support or bug fixes , but it look like an HMDI negotiation problem to me.

I have two M8 OTT TV Boxes which have been working perfectly, for quite a while. Then one day, for no reason that I can think of, the sound disappeared on one of them when using Kodi. I was getting sounds when on the Android screens, but when I was using Kodi v16.1 Jarvis, I did not get the clicks or the whooshing sound when making selections, as well as there being no sound on any video, very frustrating.

I Googled for possible solutions, but nothing seemed to work. Then I realized that I should compare the settings on the two M8 OTT TV boxes and found that on the Android Home screen under Advanced that the Digital Audio Output values were different. The working M8 box was set to PCM with Auto Audio Detection set to ON and the non working one was set to HDMI with Auto Audio Detection also set to ON. I found by changing it back to PCM cured the problem.
By the way I have ALWAYS used HDMI cables to link the Box to the TV.

Change Digital Audio Detection to OFF then you are able to change Digital Audio Output to PCM

Change Digital Audio Detection back to ON

Success, everything started working again It really came down to keeping the Digital Audio Output set at PCM
I hope that this works for you. It was very puzzling how this happened in the first place

Yeah , thats a different problem to the one I get , if you have sound in Android but not kod its settings related , if its no sound on Androit its hardware/compatibilty related. Theres quite a lot of videos on youtube to fix the problem you have , just wish there was more support for these boxes as they are really good when they work , but I think i will stick with named devices rather than clones from now.

Go to settings>other>more settings.... Choose sound, click on the volumes button at the top & it opens a pop up box, make sure the top option (music, video, games & other media) is turned up full. Problem solved :)

I have just lost my sound from within kodi only on an android box .
I tried every trick I could find but nothing worked , until I simply found the instructions for resetting Kodi.
This removed all my addons but it also fixed the no sound problem and then I simply added back Exodus etc as I needed them.
Its would seem to be the simplest route to take.
Make sure fusion is installed first and then install exodus.
