Advice on WiFi external hdd

Hi.
I am thinking of storing all my music (over 70gb) onto an wifi external hdd so that I can stream all music android tablet and mobile.
My question is can I play the music through vlc player or other media player app?? I can't find any wifi harddrives with apps that I can search for artist/tracks which is a must for me.

Why not use Google Music Manager and keep all your music on the cloud?

I want to use it out and about for dj ing and can't always get wifi or even good mobile signal so I need something local. And I don't want to pay 100's for a laptop to run it.
