Guys there are problems with the samsung epic 4g, and many of us have worries about the customer service that samsung will give to us in the future to solve some of our phones issues, BUT

:):):)!!!!! We have the best Android phone on the market as far as screen, processor, gpu, and much much more!

Lets enjoy our reign on top for a little while and stop being so dog eat dog.
I love my epic. I hope you do too.

I'll second that. I'm able to do everything I hoped to do with this phone so far. Of course this is my first smartphone, so I'm not being as critical or as jaded as some other seasoned smartphone owners. Yeah the gps is only accurate to 30 meters, but it hasn't failed to navigator me to any of the locations I've entered. And yes the upload speeds are slow, but I'm sure they'll be a fix for that, plus 4G is coming to everyone by the end of the year. At this point I'm thrilled with the Epic's performance. :D

I'll second that, too. This is my second smartphone. Actually, my first smartphone was a BlackBerry not-so-smartphone. My Epic does everything I ever wanted it to do. Every.Thing.

I'm just ignoring all the gripe posts. I can understand where they're coming from if their phone is defective, but geez - gimme a break already.

On the positive side of things - I tried handcent this week. Very Nice!!

What does this app offer over the default messaging software?

I just like the visual interface. I thought the stock was quite boring. Other than that, check out the Favorite SMS App thread. Oh, and it's free!

Now this is what I like to hear. All the complainers can take a lesson from this guy. Anyway, I love loveee my epic. Games are amazingly smooth. The general speed is lightning fast! A few apps id recomend are soccer superstars, xscope, car dock, pocket empires. Keep up the positive attitude! :)

The epic is a good phone, it has several very serious bugs. given that Samsung has the worst record of support of smart-phone makers, it is not "complainer" to idenfy problems and try and light a fire under Sammy and Sprints butts.

Many of us here are long time smartphone owners with high degrees of technical knowledge and unlike you are not having an emotional response.

The phone is an appliance. It is cool now and will be old news in ac couple of months. we wish to identify the 10 or so bugs and push for fixes -- our own or Sammy and Sprints..

I agree. As I stated above, I'm a novice, and first time smart phone owner. So of course I'm going to be blown away, coming from a flip phone. But after the honeymoon wears off, little things that need to get fixed will start wearing on me, and I'm sure others. So I'm all for raising the roof, and shooting out loud, in hopes that the powers that be, do something about fixing the bugs that do exist.

Agreed that there may be issues, but to me this phone is far and away the best device I have owned thus far (although some of you may not think that's saying much! (Treo90=>Treo300=>Treo600=>Treo650=>HTCMogul=>HTCTouchPro)

I use this thing CONSTANTLY, without issue, for:
    1) Camera - taking close ups of electronics/labels/tagging, etc. Excellent for my needs. (Won't ever replace a dedicated camera of course, but if lighting is decent, and you take time to focus, it's great!)
    2) Remote control/access of home computers - using RDP client and LogMeIn Ignition - absolutely flawless operation.
    3) Music - plugged in to external speakers almost every day, almost all day (streaming via Pandora). ZERO issues.
    4) Using Excel spreadsheets - I have many custom calcs/equations that wouldn't load/run on my TouchPro with Office, but open/work with ThinkFree. ZERO issues.
    5) Texting - canned app - ZERO issues.
    6) Excercise - I loaded about 40 80's rock videos, with some newer stuff (HQ/HD quality) and watch while on stationary bike - absolutely flawless. Best part is that I can just plug the MicroSD in to the provided Micro to SD adapter, plug in to the media port on my HP laptop, and copy files directly (no restrictions...). Flawless. Have done this via Bluetooth, but, of course, is doggedly slow in comparison.
    6) Phone calls - many calls a day - Pandora pauses, call quality is excellent, speaker phone is WAY better than TouchPro, Pandora resumes. Flawless.
    7) Phone calls - Bluetooth in car - My TouchPro wouldn't sync phonebook/contacts reliabley with my car, but this thing, thus far, is absolutely flawless. All contacts, etc. work without adjustment or tweaking.
    8) Music - in car - long trips around South Texas, I use Sprint Navigation. Audio out (3.5mm) from Epic to Aux In of my phone. Sprint Nav works flawlessly for me, very close (at least as close as my Nuvii 760), no issues thus far (only about 5 100-200 mile trips, though). Sometimes the audio (music) takes a couple of seconds to restart after pausing for a voice command, but it eventually comes back on after a voice from Sprint Nav.

The above is my 'positive' experience.

    Less than positives:
    1) Email - sometimes seems slow to load new messages (Gmail canned app is the exception - very quick to refresh/update). I have three email accounts for various purposes, and the update rate is poor at best. Sometimes the new mail icon doesn't appear. I do, however, a text message sent to me from my work email for high priority emails, so I do get a text message for important stuff. Icon no-show is kind of a pain. No 'Mark All As Read' is missing too (or maybe I missed it?).
    2) 4G - we have 4G service here, but it's spotty at best. Have had up to 3.5Mbps downloads on good connections. Even on 3G, no issues.
    3) Battery is 'ok' - I'm usually plugged in during the day, so I am fully charged leaving work....
    4) Don't use wifi much, may soon to check out DLNA.

Anyway - some of my quick notes on my experience, for what it's worth!!!

I will say this once and ONCE only.

ANY more comments calling people trolls or fanboys (regardless of how you spell it) will NOT end well.

AF is here to help each other out. There is NO NEED to bash other users REGARDLESS of the reasons. If you don't like the rules, find another sandbox.

I LOVE this phone, coming from a BB 8903.

I use it mainly to watch all sorts of YouTube vids and music downloaded from DJ friends of mine, which I can listen to during a workout or watch (YouTube streams of DJ performances of YouTube).

I do use the WiFi a lot when I am at home or find a spot at a local bar. Too bad it's not able to connect to Starbucks (ATT) WiFi because it requires browser authentication and for some reason the browser does not seem to let me authenticate.

In the various spots I find 4G (even though 4G is not official here in the SF Bay Area yet), I have gotten as high as 8 Mbps down according to Speedtest.net app.

Navigation as well has never failed and it does lock on fast (albeit with the 98.4 feet accuracy).

The only gripes I have so far are:

Comcast pop email does not auto check (I have to manually refresh to pick up email) using the provided email app, although my Exchange account email works fine

Can't get my company email directory from our Exchange Global Address List (is there an app for that)?

    I only have one contribution:

Yep, the battery sucks...but then, so do the others.

Beats the CRAP outta my old Palm Pre...and I thought THAT was a great phone!

As I've said before, ya don't like it...take it back and go back to the crappy piece of crap you had BEFORE you bought this. Or better yet, go get an iPhone...just make sure you hold it just right and the stars are in the right position and the moons are just right and the planets are aligned perfectly and all your friends and family are lined up just right when you point the phone in just the right direction so you can actually make a phone call.

Ya bought the best phone on the market. Get over it.

LOl I guess you missed the thread title which is a violation. And which calls childishly calls the legitimate reasoned discussion of several serious bugs "bashing."

I agree. People are so quick to jump on the bandwagon. They have unreal expectations.
The phone is awesome and is right there with the Evo. I have the Evo as well. I just use the epic as my main phone.
Samsung is doing a new thing and a good job.
Of course people will like something else better but for liking something else better doesn't mean the other device sucks. I like the Epic better but the Evo is still one of the top phones. I can see why people get stuck on the fence of both

There is a BIG difference between people bashing the phone because "insert reason here" and complaining because the GPS doesn't work.

In my eyes, the OP was saying that yes, it, like all phones, has flaws. The bashing (which we've all seen) is laughable.

My reminder, which you quoted, was to remind people that while people may be bashing the phone (who cares what some random stranger on the internet says by the way), bashing PEOPLE will get you banned!

This is a pretty clear explaination, IMO. The rules have been made by the admins/owner are clear as well. Play by their rules or play somewhere else. :)

No need to bash anyone here or elsewhere to make this point:

There is a difference between bashing a product and criticizing the implementation and support of its basic functionality. Those of us who are lobbying to get the Epic's data and GPS features to function as advertised aren't working against Samsung users. We aren't trying to disillusion anyone against using a phone they enjoy as is.

We're trying to get two major companies to improve that experience so that it includes the benefits that have been advertised, reported and promised. We're trying to make sure that the advantages of using an Epic on 4G and 3G networks match those on the Evo at the very least.

That way, when people who own other smartphones actually do bash your Epic, they won't have any legitimate reasons for doing so. That way, your experience of using the Epic, which you already enjoy, will be even better.

Know your adversaries. Know your friends.
