That doesn't sound right, I get a lot more doing the same, and more, on mine!!I too am thinking about an iPhone 4. I went from an iPhone 1 16GB to the Desire, now we have 2.2 I really like the OS but the battery life is absolutely shocking on this thing. A 50 minute train journey into London, during which I browse the web and email people uses up 50% of the battery, it's not unusual for the phone to go from the 9% warning to shutdown in a minute or so. My brother in law has a Samsung Galaxy and he suffers the same problems so I wonder if this is an Android issue rather than HTC.
If I plug it into my laptop and use the MiFi feature the battery actually loses power, although this is only a percent or two over the course of the journey, that is still bad, no?

So here we are! This is tomorrow! Did you get your iphone4?
iphone 4 is even more of a hog. good luck
Oh and by the way, this is just simply not true. The iPhone4 will last FAR longer doing the same stuff as the Desire. This is just one reason why I wanted to switch.
And, no, this is not the opinion of a deluded fanboy. It just happens to be a fact.
thats normal for any of todays devices with big screens, faster cpu's, thinner form factors and smaller batteries.
iphone 4 is even more of a hog. good luck
thats exactly what im saying.I have to say that my two and a half year old iPhone with original battery would last about the same as my Desire when it comes to data, quite simply the battery on this thing sucks big hairy ones, there's no point kidding ourselves. If I could get an extended battery I'd keep it. It gets really hot when being used for surfing as well, does anyone else get that?
thats exactly what im saying.
your old iphone had a smaller screen, 400mhz cpu, its gsm only and not 3g (3g is a massive overhead)
desire/iphone4/blah blah
has 800-1000+ mhz, a 4.3 screen with better lighting and quality, more cpu hungry apps and games, 3g etc etc
you are bound to get a shorty battery life
what im saying is comparatively the desire is no worse off than any other smartphone or iphone4 in terms of battery life
EDIT: the heat is from the cpu and screen,
default governor for the cpu us 254mhz idle and 998 in use, there is no stepping so when using apps the cpu is at full throttle.
USB power is about ~500mAh, the battery consumes about 1kAh when being used. It's why when you put the phone down and not use it, it charges much faster than when you're using it during the charge. If I plug it into my laptop and use the MiFi feature the battery actually loses power, although this is only a percent or two over the course of the journey, that is still bad, no?
Oh wait for fusion cell batteries, and dual CPUs that you could run at a lower MHz for more efficient longer use.
...Now with only a 1% chance of catastrophic containment failure...
