  • Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF201 Touch Screen Digitizer Replacement
  • Asus Eee Pad Transformer TF201 LCD Screen Replacement

Essential Tools:

  • Safe Open Pry Tool
  • Small Phillips Screwdriver
  • Adhesive Strips
  • Heat Gun or Blow Dryer

Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF201 Take Apart Guide:

  • Prior to beginning the repair, it is crucial to be sure the tablet is fully powered down.
  • Starting at the top of the device take a safe open pry tool and remove the back cover. Pry in between the unit and the back cover releasing the clips located at the top and then shim the tool along the sides and corners. (Figure 1.1)
  • During the removal of the back cover be cautious not to tear the flex cables (2) which hold the cover to the tablet.
  • Before totally removing the screen assembly, release the flex cables (2). With the pry tool release the cables by lifting the tabs at the top of each cable (Figure 1.2 and 1.3). In order to get the best angle for releasing the tabs you may want to re-position the device.

  • Following the release of the flex cables, unscrew the Small Phillips screws (2) from the screen assembly (highlighted in red in Figure 1.4).
  • Then using a heat gun (on low heat) or a blow dryer (on medium heat) warm up the corners and edges of the screen for about 35 to 50 seconds. Doing so will loosen the adhesive that holds the touch screen to the tablet, and thus make it much easier to remove. (Figure 2.1)
  • After the corners and sides are heated up, use your pry tool to wedge between the LCD screen and touch screen. You may encounter some areas with stubborn adhesive. If so, re-heat the corners and sides again for no longer than 30 seconds to avoid overheating. Using your pry tool, run the tool around the edges until the two screens are detached. (Figure 2.2)

  • In order to totally isolate the touch screen the next step will be to remove it from the housing. To complete this heat the sides and corners of the screen just like you did while removing the LCD screen from the touch screen. Lower heat settings and time lengths are strongly recommended because the housing is very thin, and overheating could cause the plastic to warp.
  • Cautiously wedge your pry tool in between the frame and the screen and work your way beneath the adhesive. Make sure to find a firm entry point to pry between and then shim the pry tool along the sides. (Figure 3.2)
  • The touch screen is secured to the frame with lots of adhesive, it will be important to use extra adhesive when you get to the point of attaching a new touch screen.
