Is anyone else having serious problems with the battery life?

After fully charging the phone, I can't get more than 12 hours usage out of it, even if it's on standby for 95% of the time.

I'm guessing something is seriously using up the battery somewhere but I'm not sure what. I've been to Settings --> About --> Phone Usage and it says where the battery has been used, but 40%+ is on Phone idle, and 40%+ is on cell idle (I'm guessing signal), but surely this shouldn't be happening, the figures on the Sony website give standby hours in the hundreds not less than 10.

    Cheers

I have the same problem but it if you look at buying a replacement battery from the Sony site, it says something along the lines of it takes 5 charge before the battery produces its optimum point. I have passed my 5th charge some time ago and have noticed it last a bit longer but no where near the time Sony advertised.

    Something must be wrong.

I got my x10 yesterday, can keep some updateposts on how the battery will last and improve.

    ---------------------------------------------------
1st day. Charged it the first night, used fairly much since it's my first day with it. aprox 12 hours now and 50% left on the battery.

Have had Wifi 3h, then downloaded some stuff, texted some, talked for 1h tops, and 1,5h music.

    -------------------------------------

Second Day. Charged it the whole night went up at 6:30pm and started using it.

surfed alot of internet >4h total (2h on wifi)

    Called and texted etc.

On the evening I went to afterwork with some friends and they all just tryed the phone and it was used by "noobs" for 4 maybe 5 hours. then it went dead @ around 00:00.

I could use it a bit more when it was dead but i need a reload during the night.

I had near 4 hours on the initial charge with near constant WiFi, and in a poor signal area. Not outstanding, but not too bad. My TG01 fared much worse.

I don't have any experience with the X10 yet, but a number of comments over on XDA suggest that after 3 or 4 full discharge cycles (drain to dead before recharging), the battery life improved greatly.

something definitely wrong with mine too. after 19 mins it was down to 88% from a full overnight charge. it says display 37%, android system 29% and cell standby 23%.

the figures for the system and standby looks a bit too high right?

Mine seems to have performed a little better today. Normally I'd have had to top the charge up by now. Been running nearly 9 hours since unplugging and down to 32%

Phoned O2 and a very helpful Guy there pointed out that my SIM card wad very old and may be searching out a 3G signal more often than a latest issue SIM. Picked one up from an O2 shop and it was activated immediately.

Seems to have made a big improvement in battery performance. Also, my emails are showing updates as frequently as it should. With the old SIM I rarely had automatic updates.

He also said it shoif improve voice call quality.

I can't remember how old my SIM was, but at least 5 years.

had mine a week today and at first battery was very poor. loosing about 10% + per hr even while doing nothing. but after my 5th charge/discharge yesterday at 12pm has been running solid since with moderate use and wifi on all day and is still now at 70%. so seems it does improve with time,, and patience ;)

My review sample is going to be swapped out by Sony Ericsson next week because I'm lucky to get 3-4 hours from my X10. Worse still, it only gets to 100% charge from the Sony Ericsson power adapter. Use any microUSB mains charger and it gets to 50-60%. Via USB, it won't get much higher - and took ALL OF Sunday to get to 60%.

It's too early to say yet, but given the extreme problems some people are having, there's either a faulty batch of batteries or perhaps even a hardware fault with the handset.

We would of course need to establish more people having such extreme problems, and I'm not talking about apps that drain power in normal use - and variations between 9-20-30 hours.

If anyone is having a situation where they're unable to charge the phone properly and it then dies without doing anything, please let me know.

My battery on my first X10 was pants and remained pants for the week I owned it. I got it replaced on Wednesday last week and my new unit is going from strength to strength battery wise.

Today it has drained down to 68% after 8 hours since unplugged

I bought my X10 on monday, on tuesday after a full overnight charge, i got less than 12 hours charge, not pleased.

Same on wednesday after a full discharge and charge, and again on thursday.

BUT today after another discharge and charge, i unplugged it this morning around 9, and i still have 85% at 6pm, much better!

So its true that its better after a few charges, im glad i dont have to charge twice a day anymore even if it was only for a few days!

Install Juice defender. I use my X10 lots and couldn't get more than 6-8 hours out of it for the first few days. This got better by day 5 but I still couldn't get more than 12 hours out of it (which is more than enough for a full day out of the house if I'm honest), but then I heard about juice defender. It's a free app that switches 3G on for 1 minute in every 15 while your phone's not in use. This allows you to still get regular e-mails and updates without worrying about unnecessary battery drainage while your phone's idle.

now I can go all day and my battery still has 30-40% charge when I plug it in at night time. It's an amazing app... and it's FREE!

nwo go get it from the app store.. GOGOGO!!

Well it turns the 3G/GPRS (APN) off when the screen is locked and the phone is not in use... but it switches it on for 1 minute every 15 minutes so you can get e-mail etc. This of course doesn't effect the ability to receive calls at any time so it's a great idea!

The 3G/GPRS radio makes up a huge chunk of your battery consumption, so cutting down usage to 1/15th of normal time saves a huge amount of power :)

As soon as you unlock the screen, all settings go back to normal so you haven't got to play with it once it's installed. There's also a widget that comes with it that tells you how much you've improved your battery performance. Mine is always 2.8x but some claim upto 4x!

The free version is all preset so just download and 'enable'... DONE! :D

if you want to fine tune the settings, you can download the pr0 patch from within the app (or from the market) for a few bucks :D

    UPDATE:

Now 27 hours into thursday nights charge, still got 41% battery, no juice defender.

I do however have task panel lite installed with auto-kill set for moxier mail, sony ericsson sync, email and facebook. After i get to the next charge, i intend to uninstall task panel and see what happens, just to find out if the battery is actualy getting better, or i have found the right apps to kill in task panel

This phone now rocks, better battery life than my old iphone 3g!

I m on a Samsung i7500 right now, but am looking to upgrade to an xperia X10.

Many of your battery life woes are true with most android phones, especially on 1.6.

Go to the market and get an apn switcher, to turn off your 3g when not in use, turn off background sync, adjust screen brightness (theres a widget bar with all these options), and get a good free task killer, and just end task things after they ve been running, I use Advanced Task Manager, apn droid, and spare parts (which will show you whats been draining the battering etc, on running history).

That should substantially increase your battery life. But if you have your screen on 30% of the time.. you may want to change your timeout, as well, if you have sync with 3g , bluetooth, gps, all running, no phone will last a day..those all use an enormous amount of BATT life if left unchecked.

I don't know what's going on with my xperia x10 battery. it drops quickly. the battery dropped off till 0% and it turned off of course when i was on the way. And when i tried to charge it after arriving home, I have a problem to charge it :(

I charge it from 8 pm to 2 am but it was still off and the light indicator still red ... and sometime while it was charging, the phone turned on it self and suddenly turn off again and pop up "please connect to charger, charge only 2%" and it happened many times...

I confused... does the charger work or not? or does it take along time to recharge it again till 100%? I have charged it around 8 hours already..

d u guy have the same problem with me?

I have aplan to sony ericsson service center today to know what's going on :(

Hi new tro the forum but feel a small rant required :),

I got my x10 1.5 weeks ago. The first one went back after 2 days with poor battery life and it was exchanged by the CFW. Second one had more or less the same issue, I installed ATK and found it made very little difference on the phone. After 3 hours of sending 10 texts and checking the status a few times I had used 15% of the battery.

I have now told CFW to either sort it out or change to different phone as for SE to indicated that the will last for up to 450 in standby I assumed(whether right or wrong) that I might see at least 150 hours.

Furthermore, SE replied to me was that they couldn't help me any further on the issue, if I had turned off all the obvious stuff like, 3g, brightness, timeout etc

To be honest I am very disappointed. Personally as we get charged so much for these phones (whether PAYG or Montlhy contracts) manufacturers should be made to indicate how the phone will perform in a realistic world. There should be a std usage criteria (say 20 texts a day 1 hour worth of conversation, music for 1 hour) so people can make informed decisions. After all , if you bought a car and the manufacturer said in the right cricumstancfes your car will do 150mph, and you only got a top speed of 50mph in the real world, you might just complain.

As a functional device ,its very good and ticks all the boxes for me, its just the poor battery life. Having to charge the phone once or even twice a day is not exactly Green.

Sorry guys rant over, just find it very very disappointing that on paper its a superb device but in reality is let down by the most funtimental component.

    M.
