I have the Samsung Prevail with the new Shabbymod .7 which is absolutely awesome.

I just read a review of the phone and it said this.. The device is said to last for 6.50 hours of talk time and 216 hours of standby time, which is pretty good.

Which doesn't even come close to what I get.. It is dying after 8-10 hours of idle time after being full charged should I look into getting a new one. Every time I forget the phone in my pocket and wake up the next morning it is dead... I have chargers at work, home and the car one to avoid it dying but it is just a pain.

I have GPS turned off but I usually leave wireless turned on since it is the only way I can get anything on it when I am home.. Sprint reception kinda sucks down here..

    Thanks

The last thing you said might be the most important.
If you spend most of your time in an area with bad reception, this will drain your battery. Your phone will constantly search for signal. The weaker the signal, the harder your phone works.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about that other than maybe get an extended battery to help get you through the day.

Also try an app called Juice Defender for improving your battery life. It keeps your internet connection off most of the time to conserve battery. You can set it to turn on every so often to sync your email and other data.

You were exactly right. I turned on airplane mode last night and installed the free version of Juice Defender. Though it still is down to 60% after about 13 hours without a charge but still a huge improvement from before. Thanks

I use juice defender also and my battery would be dead in four to five hours now it will stretch out 15 or 16 hours under normal use..

Ok so I dont make a new topic I will add to this one.
I have made some changes to my phone, First I tried flashing shabby's test kernel via odin but ended up bricking my phone, so I flashed the stock unrooted via odin then updated my phone to EE14 via the ota update(last update I had to use the interdepth update solution) then I rooted and installed the test kernel( couple of reasons for that number 1 closing the back door boost conveniently has on the phone) then put on shabbymod .9 with my own personal touches and blue's royal v2 theme(by the way thanks blue).
Ok after getting it all set up and running through a few tweaks here and there I fully charged it and I now have 1 day 17 and a half hours since last plugged in, and 35% battery left.
Now this is with light use, half a dozon phone calls I think at most 2 hours of internet, not all at one time. And maybe 1 and a half of gaming time. again not all in one sitting.
Before I was getting maybe 30 hours tops with it just minimal use. and 16 with about the amount of use I have one this now.

newb question - whats the difference between a kernel and a rom? I thought they were the same? where do i get this test kernel? I want to do it too...

ok i dont have specifics on the rom vs kernel but you know that android is based on linux right? Well the kernel is the underlying infrastructure and the rom runs on it you cant have the rom without the kernel.

and you can get it from this thread.

ok quick update 2 days 4 hours now sitting at 7% left.

and the last 12 hours have had more use then the previous day.
Now only one problem maybe shabby or someone would care to investigate. When the battery gets to 10% the screen damn near shuts off. I know it is a power save feature but I think its annoying as hell and if I feel the need to conserve the power I will shut it off on my own. And other times I am trying to discharge more juice and this makes it take longer.

ok, now 2days 12 hours and it finally ran down to 1% I been using it for about and hour now this morning fairly heavily.
I am quite pleased with the battery life this time. No juice defender or other task manager on the phone I did/do use the back button to kill tasks soon as I am done using them though.

Though this is nothing compared to my lg optimus M, it has been on for 2days 6 hours and still at 66%. Though with very limited use. It is not on the cell network anymore though it is used as a voip phone with sipgate and google voice.

Hey Optimus , I have read that disabling Agent IQ will help with battery life . Have you seen anything on this ? I Odined back to basic then installed all the Shabbymods (including Kernel) and my battery life went from sugar to sh*t .:( I am gonna try the Agent IQ fix for a couple of days and see what happens . I have no idea why I started getting crappy battery life all the sudden . I've checked my running processes and they are as follows :

    RetroClock
    "TimeService"

    IQ Agent (stopped)

    SystemUpdates
    "SanService"

    com.Samsung.internal
    "AndroidSprintExtensionService"

    GoogleServiceFramework
    "GoogleMessageService"

    DRM Protected Content Storage
    "OmaDrmConfigService"

    Market
    "AlarmService"

    GoLauncher EX
    "AppService"

    Swype

I am also gonna try and reset my batteries by draining them all the way down til they cut off . If you've got any recommendations or see something out of the ordinary , plz let me know . Thx :D

Hello everyone I am new to this form. Post by New Optimus: ok i dont have specifics on the rom vs kernel but you know that android is based on linux right? Well the kernel is the underlying infrastructure and the rom runs on it you cant have the rom without the kernel.
New Optimus its the other way around, The kernel being the core of your operating system witch is linux. Rom is a little chip witch sits on the motherboard of your phone and store your operating system. So when you flash the rom your changing the operating system and restoring it on the rom.
    I hope this helps:D

I dont see anything in that list of running services that jumps out at me.

did you check to see if the boost back door is closed?

Yeah , I installed the Shabbykernel and shut the backdoor . I went ahead and started from scratch again . I'll see what happens over the next couple of days . Thanks again . :D

Have to drop a thanks for this Optimus. Before reading this thread i was getting about a days use out of my phone, which i didn't think was terrible, it did what i needed.
I decided to give your steps a try, Odin to 13 OTA to 14, than shabby Kernel, than my modified Shabby semi - loaded. That was yesterday morning. I started the process at 80 % now without charging just about 24 hours later I am at 36 % at fairly average usage for me.

So far a great improvement in battery life with just those steps, if there are any other tweaks or tips i could add in I would love to hear them

I, too, repeated optimus' steps and am experiencing much improved battery life.

Good to hear I know I am very happy with the battery now, no freezing no lagging and very little weird stuff.
Let me explain the weird stuff. I use no lock to keep from having to swipe the screen all the time well sometimes my screen will go into lock then flick back unlocked. I am guessing it is something with no lock though it never did that with my optimus so oh well.

After doing the Odin ED13 recovery , I did the OTA EE14 update , turned off Auto-sync and cycled my batteries . I am now getting almost twice the battery life . I one happy camper today . :D

First day after adopting New Optimus' Long Battery Life Doctrine (NOLBLD, the government or the old IBM would require an acronym better than this for a system that has the potential to do so much for mankind, maybe somebody can come up with a better one):

After 12 hours exactly since I took the new phone off the charger with the first charge of the new battery, my battery left % is at.....wait for it....drum roll please......90%!!!!!

This is incredible, but I do have an confession: Because I was in a warehouse all day today where CDMA does not work, I had the phone in Airplane mode for all of about 2 hours today. But, I do this all the time and have never seen battery % like this! My old phone and battery could use battery doing nothing, like I can sweat standing still.

Tomorrow, I will be at the same place and I will turn on the WIFI to see what happens. Friday, I will be driving approx 120 miles round trip through a varied assortment of Boost coverage strength so I will see how it does with the phone turned on. Of course, I have the phone on now, so that will be a good test until tomorrow morning, leaving it off the charger. Gonna let that baby drain to zip the first two cycles and then after that see what happens.

Thank you New Optimus for putting all the together for the greater good of mankind. We salute you, sir!
