The answer to that will be mostly anecdotal. Why not install both and run them for a few days? Then you can look at the battery reading (usually in Settings > About phone or Power, depending on model of phone and version of Android) and see which one is taking more power and uninstall the one you don't like.

Personally, I just look at permissions requested, some of the reviews, and do a quick search on the developer. If I'm not satisfied that it's a safe app, I don't install it.

I don't think these free apps and software are reliable in any way. Pay a few pennies and get 100% secure software with regular updates.
