So, here's my question. I suspect I will answer it myself though....

Is the reason there's no camera for any of the 2.2 ROMs because the devs need the .apks from the vanilla HTC roms? Or is it just taking a while?

I really wanna flash to 2.2 but without the camera, it's just an idle fancy since I bought the phone for the 8mp action (no need to carry a camera all day unless I really want it)

Unless I'm wholly mistaken, it is because they need the kernel for 2.2 FOR the Dinc. Due to there not really being one readily available yet, we don't have one.

Again, could be totally wrong. That's just what I've inferred.

I think you're right^^ From what I've read, the developers need a .32 kernel for the camera to work. right now .29 is only available. But I could be wrong

Yup, until the .32 kernel is either released with the official Froyo update, or leaked prior to that.. we just sit here and wait. :)

I wait on stock 2.1 lol, cause the camera is a big deal for me. It's not for everyone so those people can enjoy the Froyo goodness :D

i really dont understand why the devs that are experienced with linux kernels dont just pop open the .29 kernel and steal the camera and other driver type information from it then rebuild a custom .32 kernel that includes these things..

I'm sure what i have said above shows my incredible ignorance of kernels and programming in general. but from a minor-ly educated standpoint i don't see why I'm wrong. my only thought is that it would take way more effort then just waiting for the official one to come out and cracking that.

The current aosp kernel source doesnt even have support for the board in our phone.

    Its pretty rough.

N1 may be a similar phone, but uses a different board.

I'm guessing it won't take to long for us to get a leak of the Froyo update IF the rumors of an official OTA at the beginning of next month

It's not like the current build on non-rooted phones is using anything but the generic driver. I was hoping that with root I might have a chance to use the right one for my camera. =(

I believe it's downloadable through ROM Manager. From what I can tell, the camcorder still doesn't work, so you can't make videos, but the camera works.

This is great. I loaded the newest version and the camera is working woohoo. Note it will not work with a hydra kernal. I tried loading the hydra undervolt kernal and no camera. I hope somebody can get this working with the hydra kernals.

Edit to add: The camcorder is def still not working. I tried to use it and it froze up and made my phone reboot.
