Help Cannot play SD music while "charging only"

Am I the only one having this problem? I plug my phone into the computer and select "charge only" but this disables any audio playback or anything located on the SD card from being accessed. In the Gallery and Music apps, I receive the following message: "Your content is unavailable because your phone is being used as USB storage. Disconnect USB to access your content."

The phone is NOT listed as a storage device in My Computer. Can we not listen to music while "just charging"? I don't have an extra outlet at my desk so I just wanted to charge through my PC.
