Chicago burbs preorder question.

I live in Arlington Heights, preordered Evo at Arlington Heights BB. Basically a sales tax question, since we get taxed enough already. Does sales tax apply when buying the gift card for preorder deposit?

I paid 5.01 on tax for the deposit.
I paid 20.00 on tax for the purchase of the Evo.

You weren't suppose to get charged tax on the gift card. They subtracted my tax I paid from the tax of the phone.

I live in Downers Grove I didn't pay tax on the gift card at Radio Shack.

i pre-ordered at the kildeer best buy. no tax.
i remember a few years ago, they taxed on pre-orders for games (had to go to gamestop instead) but i've noticed they haven't recently. i don't know if they changed policies or if some of the sales associates weren't aware.
