Compare to Atrix 4g?

Hey folks,

I'm fairly new to android phones. I've had an Atrix for about 3 weeks. I'm shortly coming up on the timeframe where I have to decide weather or not to keep it.

I'm slightly disillusioned with the phone... I feel like there are 2 main issues that are making me want to exchange it:

1) The wifi is VERY unreliable.. and often I have to reboot the phone to get any data communications back after i turn wifi on. Very annoying. I'm guessing its a routing problem.... it just wont switch paths correctly from wifi to 3g, etc...

2) Notifications dont work on corporate (exchange) account.

Sorta 3) The front camera is practically useless.. i was thinking i could video gchat with it - but nothing really supports it anyway, so why bother -> This was the feature that led me to pick this to begin with.... :(

The inspire is my the phone i'm thinking of getting... can any of you confirm that the inspire does not suffer from the above issues... also how does the battery stack up... Do you get a full day with moderate usage?

Thx!

I haven't tried the Atrix, so I can't comment on all of your concerns.

I can say that my battery has been more than sufficient for my purposes. I would generally consider myself a moderate user, and I typically get anywhere between 12 and 20 hours before I have to throw it on the charger (which I always do while I sleep), and sometimes I have gone even longer without needing to charge it (though those instances were almost always with light use).

Some days, I have between 40-60% left when it's time for bed and it's been off the charger all day. There have been days where it doesn't last as long but those are the days that I am on it more than normal, so that is to be expected. In any event, I personally have not had any problems with the battery.

Again, I can't compare it to the Atrix, but I can say that so far, I haven't seemed to have any problems with the WiFi on my Inspire.

As I am sure you are aware, the Inspire does not have a FFC, so there is nothing to compare there.

Overall, I have really enjoyed the Inspire (it is my first Android phone, coming from iPhone 3GS), and unless something drastically changes, I will be sticking with Android in the future. It's not a perfect phone (ex: ringer volume isn't the best), but I don't know that there is any phone out there that is "perfect."

i had two atrix and both of them had major problems..both rebooted, one had battery problems, both lagged and were choppy using the web and scrolling through pics, fingerprint reader sucked, build quality sucked, camera sucked, qhd wasnt that great. But my main reasonfor switching to the inspire was the lag and the battery..My inspire has not had any of the above problems..no reboots, no lag whatsoever, and what i was most impressed about was the battery..my phone lasts 10-13 hrs with no problem..thats damn good for a 1200mah batt.

thanks for the tips guys... turns out i have until april 10th to return my atrix if i so choose....

No one answered my #2 question -- do any of you have any notification problems on corporate email?

Also, one thing i really like about the atrix is the speaker seems good enough that i can listen to podcasts without even using headphones --- any comments on inspire speakers/ringers?

Finally, one last question - i see alot of people saying motoblur sucks and sense is the best thing to use... as i understand it these are just launchers that ship with the phone and if you replace it with LauncerPro, ADW or Go Launcher - then what does it matter what the default one is? For instance i put go launcher on my atrix pretty quickly - so how "exposed" am I to motoblur at all anyway? If its that easily replaceable - then whats it matter?

thx!

I looked at the Atrix and the Inspire when renewing my contract earlier this month. Suspected the dual core thing was more hype than actual usable benefit. Unless your running serious apps that need and can take advantage of the dual dore processor, why pay for something you don't need/can't utilize properly.

I have had my Inspire for over a week and am very pleased. Looks good, works great. I have Coporate e-mail (Exchange) and personal (Pop3) e-mail running.
Use WiFi when I can and AT&T "4g" (yes, it 's not really 4g .. more like 3.5g) when neccessary. In my home on WiFi, getting 15MPS down and 2 up (Cable/802.11g). Mobile data is not so good with the typical 2-3 MPS down and 2-300 KBPS up .. I'm not in a metropolitan area .. Central Florida.
So far battery life not a big issue.... I don't sit texting or on facebook or twitter all day but I do receive 50-100 emails between work and personal, browse the internet, check bank, etc. Phone makes it through the day no problem.

For "Normal" everyday use, this is a great phone. I'm sure some heavy "Specialist" users wil find shortcomings but I have no complaints.

yes the only thing atrix had going was the speaker. that thing was loud and clear and music sounded great.. the inspire speaker is not the best but again its not THAT bad..alot of people complain about the inspire speaker and i can see why but it really isnt that bad.

yes motoblur sucks..launcher pro was based off the sense ui.. i tried launcher pro on the atrix an its still laggy..switching home screens and going to menu and back to home lagged sometimes..so adding the launcher didnt help at all..On the htc sense ui is so awesome..u dont need to add anything.

as for your notification on corp email..sorry cant help..i dont use corp email.

I have an HTC Inspire right now, and love it. Down the road lies either an Atrix or a Motorola Bionic - I can't decide and the decision day is away off. My point is that I plan on having both phones - the Inspire/Thunderbolt issue is resolved and the Atrix/Bionic issue has yet to be resolved. All four are good phones, and you can't really make a *bad* choice.

Agreed. Speaker isn't the greatest but when plugged in with headphones the sound quality is amazing, especially while testing music with dynamic high and lows you really can hear the difference btwn the equalizer settings. I cannot get over how awesome the sound carries via headphones or aux cable for cars. This is where the sound shines IMO.

As for the orig OP; when I tried the Atrix my Wi-fi was shaky at best at home or anywhere else. It also wouldn't respond to touch at the top. I couldn't change settings, play games even unless though, sometimes it would work in landscape only...weird.

Don't know cuz don't have coporate account setup, sorry.

I have no pref when it comes to a FCC as it's not too widely used right now.

So i have used the inspire for two weeks, traded that in and boy am i happy.
First off, Atrix 4g is better than the Inspire in every category except for sense, thats IT.
My atrix lasts almost 1 day and a half with HEAVY usage, an hour of browsing on dolphin hd browser with the sexy qHD display. ill send 500 texts, 1 hour total on facebook, 3 hours of music, 10-15 phone calls prolly 30 minutes total and not to mention a Xbox 360 ported game to my Tegra 2 processor manchip ( which the phone uses for all the people out there that deny it, morons), Monster Madness 1 hour of game time and a solid half hour with angry birds. Result? 10% battery.
This is all on a fast seamless phone with no hang ups or lag whatsoever, fast as crap internet, ( which is same as Inspire 4G internet)
FFC is actually decent and works fine.
Oh did i mention the fingerprint scanner which after the OTA update yesterday works every single time without a problem.
Oh yeah, Inspire Fanboys, you cant even touch my ! gig of ram or 16gig built in, ha i only have 6 of my 8 SD gigs full i cant wait for even more music an apps.
In Conclusion, The Inspire cant do anything better than the atrix, and in half a year single core phones are going to be worthless anyways, do yourself a favor and get the Atrix. The worlds most powerful phone.

EDIT: forgot to mention my Wi-Fi is flawless. Never drops.

Mmmm i smell htc fanboy. Dude i had the desire for a year, and the htc inspire for 2 weeks, i dont work for AT&T i just know when a phone is good and when its not. I know for a fact the Atrix is good from 3 weeks of experience, and you dont have any argument to disprove anything i said. The inspire couldnt handle the load my atrix did, it would have died in 8 hours, nor could it have played dual core games. FACT. Go ahead, give me evidence that what i said is wrong, try to disprove actual experience using my Atrix compared to when i used my Inspire, I know the Atrix is better. But go ahead try to prove these actual points wrong. Its okay, ill wait.

Im not an HTC fanboy as a matter of fact I'm thinking of leaving the inspire for an AT&T branded Nexus S or the Galaxy S 2. I just find your assessment funny because it flies in the face of what everyone elses experience has been and you used commercial punch lines

Ok, I have a Inspire and I love it, what's wrong with someone just not liking the Atrix? Am I wrong for purchasing a phone that I love? So, what if I have to charge my phone after 8 or so hours, i do that at a 60% charge, my phone has yet to go dead on me. I looked at the Atrix, and I was on that bandwagon, but, after handling the phone, I wasn't impressed. That's just me though. Can we all agree, to disagree?
