Facebook linked contacts numbers change

I have a Desire and have noticed that when linked to facebook, some contacts (which have their mobile numbers on their profile) numbers change. For example 07123456789 goes to 44123456789, but minus the '+' sign which is supposed to go before the number when it starts with 44 (+44...)

I have tried unlinking the contacts, deleting a readding them and editing the numbers. But it still happens.

Please help!
