First post newb. apologies.

I'm poor. So what phone did i get? An "Alcatel one touch evolve" through the walmart family mobile plan for 40 a month.

I've never had a "cool" phone so im pretty happy with this so far.

My problem is I'd like to be able to tether my phone to my computer and use the 3G from the phone for the laptop, or set up a hotspot. The phone is capable of it, but the $40/month plan will not let me... and according to the representative i can't upgrade the plan to enable it.

This is the message i get when i try to either tether or set up a hotspot:

"Your current rate plan does not support sharing your phone's data connection with other devices using mobile wi-fi hotspot for internet access....."

So my question. Does anyone know any way around this for this particular phone?

Sorry for asking a dumb question, it would just be really great if i was able to use internet on my computer without taking the laptop to a mcdonalds or starbucks.

Actually, IIRC, you might have to upgrade your contract to include tethering. I also believe you can tether for free if you root your phone.

I was directed to FoxFi program, but that wasn't compatible with my phone.. but they had something called PdaNet that was compatible with ALL androids and it worked great.
