in case anyone is just lazy and hasnt done it yet :D , or your a newb and don't really know what to do or wanna learn (slacker), here is the bloat free version of 2.2 de-odexed (you need to be running 2.2 to use it) . i been working on/with it for a few hours now, and it seems pretty stable. if nothing else, you'll have a good back up (we know you forgot to make one). good starting point to, for trying new things.

i know you advanced guys are prolly way ahead of this, but i struggled to get to this point so if i can help someone out, well ..why not :D also, if anyone wants to tweak it some more, we'll make it a project. the lock screen needs some help, its alot faster but still a lil janky (not so bad after the first one though)

quadrant score on my X (non overclock) was 1477 :D :) with false stagefright; 2017 with true stagefright
    ROM INFO

all the apps are renamed to .bak extensions, not removed. and not ALL were renamed (like messaging.apk for instance) so there is still some room for improvement

    **build.prop file is totally modded

**based off the deodexed rom from the other thread..just tweaked somemore

**i dont know if EVERYTHING goes with the rom, but im using ADW too

    goals for this rom were

    1. to have a GOOD stable backup and starting point (in case i mess something up)
    2. over 200mb ram left after start up (checked with android system info
    3. wicked fast shutdown (dont even get to see the "shutting down" box anymore :D)
    4. under 30 second boot...i got 29 on mine with no overclocking..we'll see if it stays
    5. loading autostarts in under 15 seconds (the 45 second load time was REALLY annoying me)
    6. most apps that aren't needed to start at boot, dont. (except bluetooth for some reason. couldnt find it in autostart)

***i recommend doing a complete recovery, not advanced, as not just the /system directory is tweaked in this rom***

newb instructions (assuming you are already running at minimum 2.2)
put the zipfile into the folder /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
    select extract file here

***make sure that the directory to the files is /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/xclr82xtc-bloatfree/file1,file2,file3 etc..***

the md5 errors with these backups is caused by the files not being unzipped to the right place (ie, it puts in one extra folder; i had to manually move them on my X to get the recovery to find them)

load as a backup from CW recovery

list of renamed stuff (ie, not gonna show up and eat your ram or battery)

    amazon
    kindle
    vz navigator
    3g hotspot (mynet)
    status widget
    adservice
    magic smoke wallpapers
    universal inbox
    live wallpapers picker
    live wallpapers
    blockbuster
    social messgaing
    social share
    setupwizard
    weather widget
    geniewidget
    vvm
    news widget
    FreindFeed
    Skype_mobile.live

after a fresh boot, i alos looked to see if anything was running that i couldnt disable from this list, and edited them in the /data directory

pretty much everything else that isnt essential and was obvious, has been cut off with autostarts. most of whats left, you need it, it just doesnt need to boot with the phone

    adb instructions..

first make a file on your desktop named bloatfree.
    put zip file inside
    extract here
    then delete the zip file

    start cmd as admin
    c:\whatever-pathfor-abd

    c:\>......\adb push .../desktop/bloatfree /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup

fill in the "..." with the correct path.

i prefer this way..i try to do everything in adb ..its easier to me

with flyX nearly here, i think this may get overlooked a bit. however, it looks like you did a ton of work. you had a clear vision of what you wanted to accomplish, and it looks like you did just that.

while i personally dont have a lot of use for it right now, i REALLY appreciate you sharing all your hard work here. looks awesome!

I might give this a try, do you need to be rooted to do it? If so, can you root 2.2 if you never rooted on 2.1?

I looked at FlyX earlier and it seemed he removed Swype, which is one of my must-have apps, if it wasn't for that being removed I would definitely use it, as I am too lazy to do all this myself (as well as being very new to it), this deodexed froyo looks like something I may end up using, depending on the answers to the above questions.

you have to have the leaked 2.2 froyo on the phone (at a minimum)...honesty if you have 2.2, you would know how to do this...if you DONT have 2.2

basically, you need to take your X. download universal androot, and the Clockwork mod Recovery.. root it, use the recovery, load 2.2 (the leaked version), the do the recovery again and restore from this backup.

there is a lil more to it than that, but you should be able to figure it out

So I would need to rollback my phone to 2.1 seeing as I am already on 2.2 without root?

can you run recovery? if you can run recovery, you just need to download this file, extract to the right spot on the SDCard and load it as a backup from the recovery menu.

im not sure, but i THINK universal androot will root 2.2 now. (that is if you cant already use Clockwork recovery.) wouldnt hurt to download it and try.

Where can I find a website on what universal androot can and cannot run on? All I could find was a post from a few days ago on another forum saying that it didn't yet support 2.2 on the droid X. And I cannot currently run Clockwork Recovery as it requires root to do so.

Well, I found this topic: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...2-leak-there-anyway-downgrade-2-1-simple.html

Followed the instructions (which link to a forum on how to root the Droid 2, which runs 2.2), got spooked because I did a step out of order (missed reading the line to copy the SU directory over to the phone) but I went back and did that step then continued where I left off before I realized the mistake.

Long story short, I am now rooted on 2.2, so I installed Clockworkmod, and upon backing up my current rom, it asked for superuser permission which means I must have rooted properly even with my mistake. :p

So, I will be looking into, then downloading and installing your rom (just as soon as I back up my contacts....no other real important data on my phone ATM).

I thought I made a backup earlier, but when I went to check my backups it wasn't there. From searching, I think I need the Droid X Bootstrap as well which appears to be free unless you want to get it through the market (and I'm not looking to pay for it anyway).

How do you download and install raw .apks? Or is there another way to make backups of my current rom in Clockworkmod, I installed the Droid X recovery but it doesn't seem to load, which I think is what I need Droid X bootstrap for.

get rom manager... easiet way to make backups

you can drag and drop .apks to the phone in pc mode (from your pc) then navigate to them and install

you get droid x bootstrap, run bootstrap, then recover..when it boots to the green bootloader, thats where you navigate to recover..

im just curious though, how did you put 2.2 on your phone without it?

I am using ROM manager (the free one, right?) I select the Droid X when it asks what phone I am using, and it reboots, but goes straight to the normal boot process without making a backup or entering the recovery screen.

I put 2.2 on the phone using the update.zip file, booting into the stock recovery screen, and telling it to apply update.zip.

Now that you mention it though, with ROM manager, do I need to manually load the recovery screen like I did when I loaded 2.2? From my understanding the ROM manager uses its own recovery screen that interrupts the normal boot process and boots into that recovery screen, but if it relies on the user booting into the recovery screen, that is likely where I went wrong...

I loaded this through bootstrap. My quadrant scor went down to under 1000. any idea why?

EDIT:rebooted again and it jumped to almost 1400. nice

How do I remove the current gmail account? If I do a factory date reset, will that cause any issues or loss of root?

I also do not see the option to add a live wallpaper. Where did that go? That is a dealbreaker for me. I like this backup, but I need to learn more before going to it full time. Let me know how I can remove your old gmail account and it I can add live wallpapers. Thanks for all your hard work. Lots of potential here.

you can turn it back on. i didnt remove it, just renamed it..

    from root explorer select r/w
in '/system/apps' change the extensions of livewallpapers and livewallpaperspicker from .bak to .apk

    they will work fine then.
i intentionally left stuff in the rom for this purpose
