Go from notifications directly to unread mail?

So in the notifications bar, many times I respond to the vibrate or whatever and I hate one message waiting. For gmail, it even tells me who sent it and the subject, etc.. (also a plus would be to tell me how to do this for exchange activesync, it just shows "unread message")

I want to hit the notification and go straight to the message. I understand why you'd go to the inbox if you have 7 conversations or messages waiting, but when there's one, and you click on the notification, can it go straight to the conversation? I can't find this in the options anywhere.
