Google to allow phone calls from Gmail - Yahoo! News

Just thought i'd post it. Sounds pretty promising.

EDIT: Mods, please delete. I thought it had to do with video calls. Sorry guys!! I jumped the gun once I saw Skype mentioned in the article, heh. <face palm>

Heh.. Thanks Connectz. Too bad you can't use video with it, like I stupidly put in the title, LOL. Mods, feel free to change title or delete all together.

Haha, I know, but not from the phone, I was thinking of it as a way to utilize those with front facing cameras on their phone, like us. lol

I guess you go to gmail on the EVO and then you can make calls. Has anyone tried this?

I read that article too but I think the writer messed up. Google Voice is still NOT VOiP.

Does this some how allow you to make google voice calls from an android phone (I have a Vibrant) using only wifi?

The google voice app depends on calling you back on cellular.

You can make calls from GMAIL right now on your computer and it uses your Google voice number to dial over VOiP, so I hope they implement that soon on the mobile app... That is what I am waiting for.

Not as of yet. In fact, the feature is not even available on Android. The calling feature for Gmail requires you to run a plug in that will not currently work on mobile phones...

Right, I should have explained that better. The gmail calling is VOiP. The mobile Google Voice app is NOT VOiP.
