Help with phone for Croatia trip

I'm going to Croatia and Slovenia for 3 weeks this summer and I need a phone. I need help picking one to take with me so that I can just buy a sim card there and have a local number and data access. I want to buy this phone well before leaving so that I can get used to it and put all the apps that i may need on it.

What phones would work and be best for this.
