Hi, just got home and my UPS package was waiting for me! Got my vibrabt tonight!

My super amoled screen will not produce any true whites. Web pages and anything that should be white has a gray tone to it. Is this normal or is my unit defective?

Quick update. After adjusting all the brightness settings the gray tone now looks like a blue tint. Anything that should be white looks either gray or a cool blue tint. Anyone else with this issue?

    update:
I've been comparing my vibrant to other vibrants. It appears not every vibrant has this blue tint, some do infact display warm whites instead of cool blues. I don't know why some Super Amoleds are displaying blue tint while others don't, but I think the warm whites produce a better result.

Try taking off ur sunglasses. J/k

I haven't really noticed but looking at the screen now the reply box that I'm writing this in is pretty white. Have you tried putting the brightness higher? If you swype across the top where the notification. Box drops down from you can swype left to right to make your screen brighter. Hope it helps

Seems like the phone has two brightness settings..one main one. .And another brightness setting through the actual browser. Both are now set to max...helped a little..hopefully its just not my unit...because I am already in love..dont want to do an exchange.

Yes! I posted on this a few days ago. On my screen, the whites are pretty dull and have almost a greenish-gray hue. Compared to my 3G iphone whose whites are what I would expect of whites, there is no comparison. I just don't understand how there could be such a big difference.

I'll probably go to a store to compare with what they have in stock.

I was told by a T-Mobile representative that the screen has this blueish tint for a reason. The Super AMOLED screen was designed for maximum glare reduction, putting this blueish tint on it helps get rid of some of the glare supposedly. Its not that bad if you turn up the brightness, but next to a phone that doesn't have the Super AMOLED screen, this one is noticeable tinted. Its honestly a bit annoying but more so when I switched from a MyTouch to the Vibrant. Now that I've had the Vibrant a few days I barely notice.

So, it was intentional, is what I got from T-Mo.

I noticed a blue tint when I had the screen protector on. Now that it is without a protector I don't see it.

Yeah, it's a Super Amoled thing. I don't mind. It's easier on the eyes for me and I didn't care much when it was dim. Now, if it wasn't white when I have brightness on max, then we have a problem.

So I been reading up on this blue tint thing. Some people say they have it, others say they dont.

According to some people, your phone is better off if it has it to begin with. Because OLED displays end up having blue LED's fade really really fast, so the company makes the screens blue exagerated to compensate for the future loss in blue.
I don't know if this is true or not.

I also found this on wikipedia:

"Additionally, as the OLED material used to produce blue light degrades significantly more rapidly than the materials that produce other colors, blue light output will decrease relative to the other colors of light. This differential color output change will change the color balance of the display and is much more noticeable than a decrease in overall luminance.[50] This can be partially avoided by adjusting colour balance but this may require advanced control circuits and interaction with the user, which is unacceptable for some users.
In order to delay the problem, manufacturers bias the colour balance towards blue so that the display initially has an artificially blue tint, leading to complaints of artificial-looking, over-saturated color."

So what do you guys think, is this just a normal OLED thing, cause my screen looks really blue to me.

I have not. I don't what it is, but as good as this screen is, it is a LOT less easy to read on than on the 2 generations old iphone 3G. I think it's a combination of things from the font to the color temperature. What's odd is that even the blacks of text is darker on the iphone, and that shouldn't even be considering this phone is capable of much blacker blacks.

I dare you to compare, for instance, CNN (m.cnn.com) on this phone versus any of the iphones. I tend to do mostly browsing with this phone, and it's kind of depressing (only in a relative sense).

I took my Vibrant back because of this very issue. The blueish looking hue on a white background was actually starting to bother my eyes. When placed side by side with my iPhone 4, the difference was actually kind of ridiculous. So right now I'm back on my Nokia flip phone, just patiently waiting on the iPhone 4 Unlock to be released.

let me think about this for a second: either deal with a slight blue tint to my whites... or deal with my signal dropping whenever i hold the phone in a comfortable manner.

I think i would go with the blue tint. i have noticed it a little bit too, but it's nothing major. i feel it's something that would only bother those who are paranoid to get the infamous "PERFECT" phone. not going to happen though. look at the screen, it may have a slight tint to it, but look at the clarity. watch avatar, put some other movies on it. even with the blue tint, it is by far the best screen ever to grace a mobile device!

My wife and I bought a pair of Vibrants the day that T-Mobile started selling them. Mine has been great but my wife's has been laggy and crashes. I got to looking at them side-by-side and mine can produce true white while her's has a grayish tint to it.

Both phones have the brightness setting set the same.

My phone is dated 7/6/2010, hers is dated 7/02/2010. Both made in Korea.

In the picture my phone is on the left. It may be difficult to tell but the phone on the left has a better white production. The one on the right has a grayish tint.

I'm going to try and exchange my wife's phone tomorrow.

Hey did you mean the phone on the left has a better white production? In the picture, the phone to the left the whites look whiter, the phone on the right looks gray/blue.

I'm thinking the same thing. The one on the left has a warmer white balance as it should. The one on the right is cooler, leaning towards blue.

Also, has yours been able to LOCK onto more than 2 satellites?

You're right. I should have said that my phone is the one on the left not the one on the right.

The phone on the right is my wife's phone which is unable to produce true white.

Try this, go into the brightness setting and turn it up a few steps (anywhere to get it off auto) now pull down the notification tab. Still Blue?

My wife and I picked up Vibrants, mine was fine. Hers showed a very obvious blue tint, especially in the notification tab. Moving the brightness off of auto and closer to the middle of the slider cured it. I called Tmobile and complained as it seems since mine did not do that it wasn't normal. They overnighted me a replacement without any hassle at all and her new one works just like mine.

If it were mine and it shows a very obvious blue tint I'd ask for a replacement.

Did you exchange the phone yet? I compared my vibrant to yet another vibrant, and this other vibrant had gorgeus warm whites, mine was grayish blue and not as bright, I think i'll do an exchange when I have time.

Can you exchange AFTER the 14 days (or 30 days in CA)? Or do you only get refurbs after that time? I am possibly exchanging mine today. I am going to do a factory reset first and see what happens.

So I have been checking out a bunch of vibrants, also the new Epic 4G.

This is my conclusion, almost no two screens are alike. The whites can vary from slight yellow tint, blue tint, greenish/blue tint, to down right dingy dirty yellow sock tint.

so strange. I went to play around with the epic today, and it was like a dirty yellow sock, and my vibrant was blue tint. I think I like the blue tint better. If I knew I by exchanging it, I would get one that produces bright warm whites then I would, but I don't want to risk getting dingy yellow sock tint. My cool blue tint looks better than that.
