Just like everyone else on here I'm constantly monitoring my battery and trying to figure out what hurts it and what helps but I give up. Yesterday my phone said it was running 20% of the time with almost no app/phone usage and my battery was at 20% after 12 hours. Today my phone says it's been on 100% of the time with bluetooth on for 50% and after 13 hours it's still at 51% battery left. I've tried every stupid widget and app to try and find out what works best and I've come to the conclusion IT'S IMPOSSIBLE. The eris has its good days and its bad days and I'll never figure out why. Oh.. and today I didn't do the airplane trick so I also had 50% without signal. Makes no sense.

Maybe it's your phone's time of the month. You know. When the billing cycle is up.

Give it two Midols and a glass of cranberry juice.

    Yeeaahhhh!!!

I would suggest trying Juice defender It works wonders for my battery life. I can go on a single battery charge as compared to when i didn't have the app. plus its free...no loss in trying it..
Edit: should have read your post...idk about the standby time, but juice defender is an awesome app either way :p

I don't know if it's just that I've been very lucky, but I have ZERO problems with my battery. I did for like the first 3 days I had my phone, but none since.
All I did was get the HTC Widgets for 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode, and put them all on one page. Then, if I'm not using any of them, I make sure they're all in the OFF position. I charge my phone over night, and take it off by 5:25 AM. I make/recieve calls, a lot of texting, then play spades A LOT, during the day. Then by the time I get home, my battery is still at at least 50%. I turn the Wifi on when I get home and download apps and such, check for updates, etc.

Am I the only one not seeing any battery issues? I'm still on 1.5 btw.

This is actually the best way for going about saving battery life. Especially with the use of the Mobile (3G network) on/off switch, I used to do this and saved a ton of battery. I don't do it as much because I can just charge it for a little bit if need be and then go on my way.

Other things can have a big impact on the battery: Signal strength is huge. Unless you are under a tower, you can have a wide range of signal from minute to minute, day to day. Low strength zaps the battery while strong signal will allow it to go on forever. Also, I've realized that I don't always pay close attention to my usage. On days when my battery seems to go dead faster, I can look back and remember that I sent a lot of extra stuff, talked on the phone a little longer, or did something that kept it awake a little longer. A little bit of extra usage in a day adds up.

I know, that sucks too. At work, I have no bars, can't get a signal in my office about 9 hours. At home, I get about 2 bars. So yeah, if it weren't for that, my battery would probably last 2 days.

I agree, Only thing i don't like about this phone is the battery baby sitting.
Some days are awesome some days not, so I got the monster battery so i dont' have to worry about it, I can make it through the day no matter what and on a good battery day the thing doesnt budge.

Coming at this from another angle, I find myself constantly checking the status of my battery, putting WAY to much stock in the *number* all the time and I wonder if all/some of us are obsessing over the number in whatever App or Widget (Battery Indicator Pro for me) we are using...

Not gonna lie, but I get a little pissed when I take it off charge in the morning and it drops immediately from 100 to 99...what is funny is if I plug it back in immediately and let it get back to 100 and then unplug again it will stay at 100 for 30 minutes or more.

So yesterday I noticed that even at 90% on the App, the actual native battery indicator was green all the way up and *appeared* at least to be fully charged...Long Story longer, I have removed the App and I am gonna go off the native battery indicator for a few days to see if I can *deprogram* myslef from relying on the number!

EDIT: I know some of you have legitimately poor battery performance, but I thought for the rest of us, getting that %number out of our heads may not be a bad thing

agree 100% I was getting battery ocd and just said screw it. I do have a battery widget but only because it saves me from having shortcuts to three different battery monitoring things. I still like to check if that meter runs down faster than normal but I dont leave the widget on the front page anymore. Camera is a HOG! it continues to be a HOG if you don't kill it after using it, for me at least.

Do you have an Eris on 2.1? The developer's website for Juice Defender says it doesn't appear to work on Android devices with 2.1 such as the Eris.

It wasn't working for me at all when I first installed it but after a few updates, it says that it is saving battery life and I'm not getting the APN errors. I haven't measured to see if this is true or not. Like one of the above posters, I plug my phone in during my morning and afternoon commute, so I rarely have an issue with running out of battery.

I was very OCD about my battery as well, constantly freaking out about the 50% signal issue and doing the airplance trick and all.
This last weekend I decided to just leave the 50% thing going and not "airplane" my phone. While it does say that Cell Signal is using the majority of the battery IF I don't use my phone much, I haven't noticed any difference in battery life.
I charged my phone yesterday afternoon around 2pm. It's still on full battery right now, that's with very little usage though.

I really think some of the problems in 2.1 are glitchy timers...the 50% without a signal thing will show the 50% but also a time on of 20 hours, but the regular battery timer will say unplugged 10hrs ago? Thats why if you hit airplane mode and plug it in for a second it resets back to zero.
I've also noticed the "sensor usage" will show programs using the sensor for 20 hours when uptime on the phone is less the 10 and goofy stuff like that. Either there is some math I don't understand going on there or something is just glitchy. I'm hoping maybe I can get my hands on an Inc and test some of my theories.

I did some extensive traveling a couple months ago for 2 weeks and could generally get 2+ fractions of days out of a single over night charge. I wasn't using any battery monitors or task killers either. However, I was religious about turning off the 3g gps and such while I wasn't using them and never let the phone turn itself off. I always used the end key and never let it actually sleep by itself.

On the other hand now I'm using it constantly and only get about a good days worth if I'm lucky. Usually its like 12 or 14hrs of continuous use. But once it hits the 15% alarm I stop and it will last for the rest of the day until I plug it in.

I don't turn anything besides WiFi and GPS off and I continually get 25+ hours out of my battery. That's with 250+ texts, 10-20 minutes of calls, 1-2 hours of surfing the internet, and syncing 2 email accounts every 2 hours. I guess I just got lucky with the battery in my phone or something.
