I have an Incredible. I use basic IMAP mail hosted on a server I pay for.

I tried K9, and it fails with SSL. See here. I tried redownloading the certificate by reentering the information. This is a temporary fix at best, as it will sporadically on one of my email accounts stop receiving or sending mail, which I verify by checking the k9 errors folder.

Then there's HTC mail. You have to jump through hoops to get SSL on SMTP servers, and there's no sending mail over wifi. I have yet to get SSL certificates on outgoing mail to work with HTC mail, which is a requirement.

I don't use gmail for business, but I tried the gmail app and noticed: no select, or copy, on the HTC Incredible gmail app. So if I have something like, say, a tracking number, I am screwed. I actually use the web browser to check gmail.com rather than use the app on this phone. At least in K-9, if I hit reply, I can scroll down to body text and select what I need to. Even if the selection isn't done as elegantly as it is in the browser, or in the HTC mail app, it works.

I want an email app that just works. Push/IMAP idle would be nice, but I'd settle for something that doesn't have a pile of SSL bugs and wi-fi issues.

    :(

also, is there a way to make K-9 lag less? Compared to the stock email app it feels like I'm trying to run windows 98 on a 486 SX

Yes mailDroid is the way to go. Its still free and is constantly being updated. The dev team is easy to talk with as well if you have a need for something specific that they can implement into a newer build.
I cant wait for there pro version.

The only problem i have with the IMAP email is that it doeen't send the email in a timely fashion. Especially if I set up extra account. It usuallly takes about 20-30 minutes to update the phone. and I do hve it set up to check every five minutes.

I will look for MailDroid and test that out.

I tried to find a premium maildroid version with no ads and couldn't. I'd be happy to pay for it, but I have a strict policy of not letting ad-supported software on my cellular device.

I take it back. I wouldn't pay for maildroid yet. It has a terrible character limit on the signature.

I have two addresses in my signsture so I am not stuck typing them out on a phone keyboard when I need to give it to someone. I hate k9 lag terribly, but I need my signature in tact.

Edit, this is so wrird. Gmail truncated the signature but only when I sent The test email to my gmail account from Maildroid. It doesn't truncate the signature when I send from k9. on a computer, the full signature is visable on both the maildroid and k9 sent email. I dont understand what Maildroid is doing differently but I have to find out what is causing this to ensure everyone can see the signature.

Yes, I am trying it. I thought IMAP was able to "push" on maildroid but I only see that you can poll via time setting, like every 5 min for example...did I miss something? I just want to get the email when it comes in...otherwise if you are emailing back and forth it seems to only come in at the interval you have set, like 5 min...I would make that shorter but I fear my battery will be sucked dry.

I also thought I read you could set different notifications for each email account with maildroid, but I only see a global notification setting not individual...

Does MailDroid consolidate multiple email accounts into one inbox, blackberry style? I have three email accounts I need synced: gmail, microsoft exchange, and zimbra. Opening up a different app for each account is non-productive during work hours. Also, how does Maildroid perform on push notifications when mail arrives versus the stock email app?

I am running this in beta and when the product is 'complete', I will offer a paid version (probably at the end of August).

There is no limit on the characters. Are you on the Incredible? I have heard a report that the Incredible is causing some truncated characters in the signature.

That is not correct. It does push. Please take a look and read the help file related to the connection management. The interval 5 minutes is only called if you set the radio button not to keep connection on.

Yes, you can set different notifications under the accounts screen --> menu --> preferences --> rules

No, not yet. A combined inbox will be done after I get Exchange and Search support which I feel (and most users) is more important.

The stock does not really support idle push.

It is going to take some time to get email working anywhere near as good as blackberry have it.

That is something I really miss about my blackberry, have even considered going back.

Just wondering... did you ever do this:
"In order for us to have a chance at helping you with a complex issue, we're
going to need a debug log from your phone. You can dramatically increase
the chances of a quick and successful resolution to this issue by following
the instructions at: LoggingErrors - k9mail - Instructions for users to use debug mode to log errors. - Project Hosting on Google Code

Please provide any additional information that might help us debug the
    issue below."

 I use htc mail over WiFi all the time.

I am pretty sure ActiveSync won't work over wifi due to security settings.

I have an ERIS I've been syncing my work account via ActiveSync with no issues - and IMAP to the home exchange account.

After a bit of research I found that email.apk is able to activesync multiple exchange accounts - AND you can use a merged inbox for all (maybe not gmail, but I don't want my gmail inbox on my phone)

I couldnt' use email.apk without first rooting my phone. Did it today & thrilled with the email options so far. I just wish I could sync tasks along with mail, calendar & contacts...

I'm pretty sure you're incorrect, since I have my EAS account set up with htc, have it set to sync as items arrive, and it works just fine on WiFi.

What makes you think WiFi is any less secure than 3G?

Because I've tried various settings and the exchange server my company uses will not connect. My IT support people tell me that it (they?) won't allow it. If you're saying there is some setting I can change that will force ActiveSync to connect over wifi rather than 3G, please share it.

I've not tried it with the 2nd activesync account at home that was just set up on my KaosFroyo rom Saturday

Actually - this is also why I think that:

The latest version of k-9 gets rid of the lag. Thank god, prior to the recent version it lagged worse than a storm 9530!

It still has no copy and paste like HTC mail, which is disappointing. It recognizes phone numbers, but copying tracking numbers still requires I use the HTC mail widget unless I want to hit reply then dig into what I'm replying to to copy it.

I can live with this, it is a small price to pay to have IMAP subfolders!
