Im really happy about the quality of this dock. Its got a nice hefty weight to it so it wont slide around on my bedside table. The phone fits into it nicely without a snug fit on the USB. I was worried that sometimes the USB are too tight and you end up with lots of little scratch marks trying to fit the phone in.

I noticed the phone goes into dock mode when inserted into the dock regardless if the dock is actually plugged into the USB wall cord.

Also noticed that the weather widget being used didnt find my location but somewhere else in my state. Kind of odd but I was able to go into settings and put in my specific location anyway.

Lastly, there are 3 available screens for widgets but there arent many actually useful widgets for the dock.

Does the Standard Dock have a 3.5mm socket for external speakers?

Yes it does. Right next to the USB input on the back.

Only issue I'm having is the standard dock app sucks. I downloaded a couple more to try out from the market. So far none of them turn off the bottom buttons so they still stay bright. Secondly, the screen doesn't get dark enough even on the dimmest settings. Here's hoping someone discovers a fix or better dock app. I miss my Nexus One dock app. That was perfect.

Can you list some of the alternative dock apps you tried. I've been searching for one myself.

I tried 3 different ones last night but the one I liked the best and actually kept was "nightstand BOLD". Id recommend trying that one for a bit.

The thing that still gets me about any of the docks though is that my phone is behind me and above my head. I have a headboard with a ledge so thats where I keep my dock. The problem is at that angle, the screen is washed out and very bright. There is no way to get the background pitch black with just the numbers for the clock to show. The standard dock only dims if you hit the little sun icon but when its dimmed, its barely legible.

Dumb question: can you lock the screen so that it turns off completely while in this dock? Or is it always on when docked? I want this dock, but if its going to be blaring my phone screen at my while I'm bed at night it's a no go. I just want it to light back up at me when my alarm goes off.

Honestly it doesn't sound like the dock would be worth it to you. For what you want you're better off just plugging in the usb on the side and laying the phone down.

Agreed. It would be great if everything would go black except the numbers or at least be dimmer than a spotlight. But the stand has a good amount of heft so it doesn't slide around on my bed side table.

Potentially silly question... but, did you have to do anything for the dock app to actually open?
I got my Atrix not long ago (from amazon wireless, not straight from att in case it matters) and also got the standard dock with it... When I put the phone in the dock nothing happens... it just starts charging but nothing else... am I missing something?

Nope didn't have to do anything. Like I mentioned in the op, the phone went into dock mode whether or not the dock was plugged in.

Ok, I just took a pic of my notification bar when I put the phone into the dock(without being connected to USB).

Do you not get the notification "connected to multimedia station"?

I just unplugged my dock (btw, standard dock, not multimedia dock) from the wall so it's just the dock sitting there... placed the phone in it and nothing happened...
Tried again with the dock connected and still the same, nothing...
Should I try sending the dock back to amazon and getting a new one just in case? I'm kind of stuck at this point...
Tried contacting Moto but still didn't hear back...

Yeah, mine is the standard dock also(hence the title) but thats what shows up in my notification bar.

Before you send yours back, Id see about finding someone else who has a dock nearby(friend or store) to try to see if its the dock or the phone.

Just received my Standard Dock from Amazon. I like it so far. Noticed that it uses MotoBlur when it's docked, but Launcher Pro when undocked. I'll have to figure how to run Launcher Pro when docked.

I know I've been remiss about posting pics. Ill get to it soon. For bedside dock try the "nightstand BOLD". Best one I've found so far.

Just got my standard dock today, really like it so far, the dimmer seems like it will be good enough for me to keep on nightstand.

I just sorta would like to keep one on my desk next to my computer but I don't want to plug another charger into my limited power strip - wish you could plug the usb cord into it but, according to directions you can't or it's not supported. Oh well.

It's a very nice dock; recommended.

Hi,

I can see from some of the comments that the standard dock has a usb port. Can anyone please confirm what you can do with the usb connection ie mass storage?
I want to get a dock mainly to charge and use the phone as an alarm clock at night. If it had a usb port to plug the phone into my laptop that would be a bonus, but the HD dock seems a bit much what I want.

Thanks,

Paul
