I got my md1 shortly after release.
it was my 1st smartphone and i had a ton of fun- it was the coolest thing ever.
after a few months the coolness wore off.
i was always afraid to root. Thought it was too complicated and risky. I thought- i'm smart, but not THAT smart.
i was ok until i played with my wifes dinc and realized how old and slow my phone was. Not my time to upgrade couldn't afford list price so i drooled at hers and thought about rooting/ overclocking but kept talking myself out of it.

well i gave up the ghost yesterday and it's like i have a new phone.
a rooted droid 1 is a different phone than stock. So super cool.
Not as hard as i thought either, just like following a recipe.
If your scared like i was an & little smart- DO IT!!!!!!!!
