If you take a look in the subforum for each of those handsets, you should get a good idea of what the latest versions available are.

Do you mean the latest officially supported version, or is unofficial OK? For older handsets the manufacturers may have stopped rolling out upgrades some time ago, but custom ROMs developed by the community can extend that sigmificantly.

For example, IIRC the last official HTC Hero update was to 2.1, but there are custom ROMs (which work perfectly well, if not better than the official ones) at 2.3.4.

Within each phone's dedicated forum there is an 'all things root' subforum. it's well worth checking these out.
