Making calls by itself

Sync doesn't take over -- I meant the phonebook download to sync takes over 10 minutes and seems to be required before I can make a call.

Oh yeah that's normal when you initially pair it after a hard reset. Sync thinks its a different phone so it has to resync all your contacts. It has nothing to do with your phone.

So I think its more an "annoyance by design" sort of thing. I'm only guessing though, since I don't have Ford Sync (sort of wish I did though, cassette adapters only go so far).
