I just read about how the Nexus one doesn't have multi-touch enabled, even though it has the capability. The Moment has the capability for it too, but doesn't have it enabled either. Anyone happen to know why the phone makers bother spending extra money on multi-touch screens only to not enable it?

i'm pretty sure google doesn't want to get dragged into the apple lawsuit as one of the possible reasons... here's a good article and response from one of the google guys...

    hehe... nice.

i posted a question on the SDX developers site after reading about cyanogen putting multitouch on the n1 browser (even though they're eclair)...

i went to luke hutchinson's blog and in the comments section, he wrote this response, which was interesting:

So, maybe someone could chime in that knows what they're talking about (because I don't really), but, one of the forum users, GlobalNinja, mentioned that when using the app: PhoneMyPC, pinch to Zoom works.

I've tested the app and it does, in fact work (using multitouch), although not perfect. So, how does this work? or how did the developer get it to work?

Here's the link to the app (Costs $$)
PhoneMyPC v1.0.15.1 Application for Android | Tools

    And the developer's site:
    SoftwareForMe.com - Home

    What the dillyo?

What makes you think Apple gives a crap what anyone thinks? Steve Jobs is every bit as much a ruthless businessman as any other corporate president. He puts on a happy face and sweater vest when he talks to the public, but that persona has nothing to do with how he and his company deal with the marketplace and customers. Why do you think all Apple products do their best to force you to use other Apple products? It's all about the Benjamins, they just happen to have very good marketing (and millions of lemmings who worship Jobs).

First: Wow, way to be a negative Nancy.

Second: I own several Apple products, and telling them that trying to 'outcompete' by suing companies that attempt to use multi-touch screens is only going to make me stop buying Apple products ought to carry a little bit of weight. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels that way.

So, has anyone else checked this out? I've been testing the Gallery app from Sofwareforme.com since yesterday, and it's fairly (or barely) usable between FC's. It's still pretty cool to be using Multitouch on my Moment.

Since the website's rep got banned on these forums, i'd be weary of using the app.

    Hm. Banned for what?
Either way, have u seen any other company or app that has been able to implement some kind of multitouch on the moment? I'm def not promoting the gallery app for usefulness.. because it crashes frequently. Just curious how they did this when everyone said it wasnt possible (on the moment with more or less vanilla cupcake).

At this time we do not know if the moment supports multi-touch.. since 1.5 has no multitouch code in it at all.. it requires a complete build of the code for the hardware specific moment (amoled touch screen vs standard tft touch used in all other devices except nexus)... It is also kernel implemented so the real answer is.. hell if we know.. that software could have had it coded in but i doubt it.. it probably was some other form of manipulation of data and sensors...

Well, check it out if u can. However they do it, even with its level of buggyness, the functionality would be awesome in goog maps or in dolphin.

I could tell u this: if i apply my 2 index fingers and slide them apart (u guys are gross), it will zoom in. But if i lift one off, keep the other in contact and slide it, it will continue to zoom in and out. When i lift that finger off and back down, it'll go back to panning.
    ..for what thats worth. :)

Nah, I'm not negative, just realistic. ;)

And I do mean what I said about Steve Jobs. I get a kick out of how people think that he's just some nice guy fighting against the evil Microsoft. He's every bit as ruthless as Gates, just with a nicer smile.

Being realistic breeds apathy, which is how we (the consumers) got in this current situation where corporations can jerk us around and we have to just deal with it. Obviously if I'm the only person who writes Apple to say I wont buy their stuff if they keep using poor tactics to keep iphone on top they won't listen, but I'd rather be doing things the right way instead of joining everyone else in shrugging it off and merely accepting that I'm a victim of where the currents drag me.
