new google search app

can anyone tell me why the new google search app requires access to my camera and microphone, without asking for permission when it does? its a search engine.....????

Well the mic access is probably so you can seach with voice. The camera access is probably so you can search by image.

Of course you have a search app - you could search for the answer ;-)

OP, Google is working to expand the functionality of it. If it's not there yet, you'll soon be able to scan barcodes and images with it. With the microphone, you're now able to have your phone listen to a song and ID it, along with it answering your spoken questions.

There's no mystery here though. As I mentioned above, they are now allowing you to search by what your phone can hear, and search by image. Here's another link confirming what I posted above. Search is no longer restricted to what you can type into a bar on the screen.
