Help Nexus system updates serious issues

Hi, I have a Galaxy Nexus, and about once a week for the last 5 weeks i have gotten a system update notification, so as anyone, i click on download it now. It says phone must be restarted, which it powers down. This is where it gets frustrating. Once it powers down, the word google appears as if it to restart, but it does not go beyond that point, so for periods of 3-8 hours all i have is a black screen with google across it. The system update obviously isnt working because after 5 attempts, im still on 4.0.2 What is wrong with my phone? Pleaae help
