Guess what, I messed around with this for a week and finally found out that Astro file manager lets you change the storage settings on a rooted phone. Just select preferences ---> directory options ---> and change everything set as the mnt/sdcard to mnt/sdcard/external_sd. Problem solved
Phone doesn't need to be rooted to do this in Astro. However maybe for app2sd I don't see an option to change that.
