Help Phone will charge fine, but won't boot past first screen

Basically, phone just stopped working altogether last night.

Decided to try it fully charged, which I did (As it had the green light), with and without the SD/SIM cards.

I can do the thing where I hold down the volume button to get on the recovery menu, but every option seems to end up on the initial 'HTC' screen, where it just stays like that.

Due for an upgrade soon, but my main concern's the potential data lost. Have a lot of pictures and work on there which I've not backed up (I know, I'm a tit), which is the main reason I wanna try and bring it back to life.

Any help much appreciated.

Pictures and work files from the phone's SD card you could copy on your PC.
Put the SD card in an USB card reader and plug it in your PC.
