Help problems with picture taking

We are struggling with the shutter timing on our S4. Seems like we get ready to take picture and activate shutter then the small square changes color and refocuses a couple times and THEN the picture is taken. Hard to stand still during all of this. Wondering why we don't just push button and it takes picture.
We're new,,,,gotta be missing something. Thanks

Welcome to the Android forums. Which camera mode are you using when you take your pictures and is auto focus already on?

we are in auto
the small box in center is in center of picture,
focuses in and out, turns green

changes to color ? red?? your subject must be focused still before it can take a good shot. .if you move your hands even for a bit, it will change its focus. ..

Yes, changes color, goes to green when focused I'd suspect.
It's amazing how long you have to stay still for after activating shot.
Our son's iphone just snaps as soon as you push button. Shots are xlnt.
I have taken some really great shots with this S4 but it seems like there's' too much to it.
Really got stay steady.
Most people using "auto" mode?

Its unfortunately a pretty-much universal problem with the S4
