Root Questions before rooting

This will be my first Android device that I've rooted. (have done plenty of others)

I looked over at the instructions and it says all you data will be wiped. So rooting will likely be the absolute first thing I do.

After you root its stated you can flash custom roms. Can someone go more in depth on this?

Will Sense not work anymore once the phone is rooted?

Any other points of interest that is worth noting?

Sense will still work after rooting...if you decide to flash a custom rom that does not support sense, then you will lose it. anyone please correct me if im wrong

Ok, thats kind of what I was thinking. Maybe I will wait to root for a day or two to see how it goes.
