QuickOffice Picture Support?

I have emailed myself a Word document with some pictures in it. I downloaded the document and saved it to my SD card. When I open the document with QuickOffice, all the text is there, but the pictures show up with a red "X" in a box. Does QuickOffice/the Gmail client not support images?
