CAUTION: Before attempting to use Kingroot on an A5, might want to have a look at this thread, from the A5 ATR forum.
http://androidforums.com/threads/help-my-galaxy-a5-is-broken.1038593/
I rooted my galaxy A5 with king root. i tried to factory reset it but when it gets to checking for updates it dosnt go any further! its been 6 hours and it hasnt moved on! can somone please help me?

OP ended up having to re-flash the phone's firmware using Odin.

Also as the Android version here is Marshmallow 6.0.1, I'm pretty sure Kingroot or any other "free" one-click exploit rooting tools are NOT going to work.

BTW the above is the only thread in the A5 ATR forum, so I guess root for this device might be difficult, maybe impossible. Especially with 6.0.1. Some Samsungs just can't be rooted at all, like certain US carrier version devices.

Odin, along with unlocking the bootloader and an custom recovery for the particular Samsung is certainly my preferred method, along with titanium backup. However that's only done with certain Samsungs, that can be bootloader unlocked and have a custom recovery built for them, either CWM or TWP. Don't know how popular the A5 is, but I don't think there's been much developer interest in it. Even popular Samsungs like flagship S and Note series certain versions have proved to be a real challenge rooting, and sometimes no root is possible at all(at the moment), e.g. US carrier version S7s with Snapdragon.

Can try rooting with things like Kingroot, but if it screws-up, like it boot-loops, sometimes you've got no way of recovering and restoring it yourself. And then might have to return it to Samsung service for re-flashing along with a stiff repair bill, if they'll do that.

For the A5 on AF, there's not much about rooting it at all here, XDA Devs might have more.
