do phones usually hit the actual retail shops at the same time they go live on the website shop? (as in official orange website to official orange shop on the high st)
I got my current handset in an Orange shop before it had been announced on line. It could differ for each phone though.
also a slight hi-jack on the thread topic but here goes (if there is a better place to put these questions let me know):
i was doing a bit of research on the nexus and looking at the reviews. its not getting as high a score as i would have thought - mostly 4 out of 5 on review sites.
it seems that the potentially poor camera compared to other phones and the lack of flash (for now) are quite annoying aspects for a supposedly top end phone.
also lack of an sd card expansion cud be an issue and only 5 homescreens? (havnt owned a modern touch screen mobile before so im not sure this would be a problem for me)
the battery life is also mentioned but i am taking that as normal for phones with a massive screen?
To be honest, the camera on most modern phones isn't great, but I was under the impression it wasn't meant to be that bad? I'll need to do a little more reading I think!
16GB should be fine for the internal memory, just copy stuff to your PC when you don't need it on the phone any more.
5 homescreens won't be an issue, I found when I was using Sense on my Desire HD, the 7 it provided was way too much. I currently use 5 and I struggle to think of stuff to put on the 5th.
It's hard to comment on battery life when you've just received a phone. I've found that battery life is generally very poor on most handsets for the first 10 or so days (until the battery/phone has settled) so it's not really fair to comment on battery life yet.
so because of this i am thinking of just getting an s2 instead - any opinions on the matter?
the s2 is getting ICS in the new year but not the vanilla version, as far as i have read.
My mother has an S2, it's her first smartphone. She thinks it's wonderful, I was am little bit "meh". There is no denying the speed, it's slick and the screen is lovely. It just felt cheap and plasticy and I'm not really a fan of Samsungs Touchwiz overlay. It's received all those rave reviews for a reason though so it must be a very good phone.
PS anyone got any idea what 3 customer service/reception is like?
Reception is good, my Mrs was with them for 1 contract. Customer service wise, it's probably best we pass on that.
Apologies, if that came across somewhat disjointed.
