Screen Brightness Level to max

Anyone else's Eris randomly set the screen brightness to full blast?? Happens often to me....

Have you checked your settings at:

Menu > Settings > Sound & display > Brightness > Automatic brightness

It is set to auto. It switches max by itself.

I have my brightness set to about 15% and its never gone up unless I have changed it manually......like bishop mentioned...... check to see if its on auto...... otherwise do you have any brightness widgets or apps that might be doing it.... I did have a widget on mine once that when touched would max screen brightness....... I would inadvertantly hit it sometimes while scrolling the screens........ removed it quickly

It is set to auto. It switches max by itself.

Uncheck "auto" and set it to your preferred brightness.

In dim environments I change it myself to a lower setting, as the "auto" feature is not to my liking.

Also, for more convenience, there are free brightness widgets to make it easier to adjust your brightness without having to go to your settings.

I appreciate the responses. I do keep the brightness level on auto, I like it on that setting. What I don't like is how it changes itself to max. I was hoping someone else has had the same experience. If so let me know, maybe we can pin it down to an app.

I believe the auto setting IS the 'app' you're looking for. When on auto the screen will adjust itself based on ambient lighting, there will be times when max is going to be the setting.
Turn off auto, then set it to the brightness that suits you.

No. It is not the app I am looking for. I have it set to 'auto', it then turns off the 'auto' setting and sets itself to the brightest setting.

Ah, you hadn't mentioned before that the auto setting is becoming unchecked. That does change things a bit, and does lend some credence to a problem app. I don't recall seeing anywhere here of an app that was causing that problem, but I couldn't claim to have memorized all the problems seen here.
If you can, go through your apps and see if there is one (or more) that controls the screen brightness independently of how the phone is set. I know that Aldiko has a setting like that, I'm sure there are others. Or put the setting on auto, then load and unload all of your most used apps. In between each app check the auto setting, maybe that way you'll be able to find the offender.

You are not alone. This happense to me too.
It does not seem to be linked to a specific app as far as i can tell.
It has even survived rooting. Problem was there on EE3.
I switched now to XTR. See if that helps.

Before 2.1 my phone would stay on auto... now auto turns off. I'm sure some app or another triggers it (stock stuff, it happened before loading anything else) but I don't know which one.

Sucks when I get a text or email in the middle of the night and hit the button and it's like a "aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" someone opened the door to Gozer moment leaving my eyes buring.

happens to me too.

not to the degree where i'm ready to give up auto-setting for manually setting.

kinda annoying.
