Help Slow, unresponsive, closing apps(games, sms) out of nowhere

Why did this start happening. My 5 year old may have downloaded something. Maybe a virus. IS there any way to fix this? Should I just completely clear my phone and start over(I would really hate to do that).

If there is a virus, how do I get rid of it. It's really annoying and want my awesome phone back to the way it was.

I only ever backed up my pictures so It's not like i can start from my last backup.

Also, will wiping my phone get rid of a virus? if its even a virus. And how do I wipe the phone completely clear??
